Straw for our organic garden
From next year, for the first time, we are thinking of covering the whole vegetable garden with straw. To this end, we ordered 30 bales of straw from the neighboring village, which brought us by truck.
My husband @outlinez unloaded and ordered all the bales in the yard, making a huge armchair extremely comfortable and enticing for relaxation.
The straw is a very good helper in the organic garden because mulching with it the soil around the plants she:
- reduces evaporation in the large heat as it retains moisture;
- suppresses weed growth or slows them down a lot
- It gradually breaks down, thus improving the structure of the soil and creates an ideal environment for plants filled with microorganisms and rich microflora.
We have now covered the straw with a large cover to protect it from the autumn rains and next year we will use it as intended.

I never use straw for 3 reasons:
I do NOT shake it out, but put down full packed leaves of hay or straw. So I am comparing similar uses of each material. I've found it to be much more expensive and do the jobs I need done much more poorly.
I hope you can get better results.
