High Expectations, Harsh Realities: The Buhari Leadership.
Buhariwa , that's what the elderly women in my neighborhood will always call him, especially those from the east , they also went as far as giving a particular pest that destroyed maize crops massively during the first year of his leadership his name, saying he sent the pest.
He was a leader that was constantly dragged and humiliated on the media, because he was always going for treatment outside the country, and rumour had it that's he died before the end of his tenure and the entire country was blindly ruled by a man who looks like him, and they actually had evidence and visible reasons to guide their claims, but power won.
I was still in secondary school during the first years of his leadership but I felt the impact of his bad leadership, the daily inflation at the market, companies had to lay off staffs to adapt financially which lead to joblessness and unemployment in the country.
That year even maize harvest was bad and they blamed Buhariwa, they called him bad luck and always referred to the hardship that came with his regime.
It was in his regime as the President of my country that I learnt to prepare local rice, my mom taught us how to seperate the stone from the rice without stress ,she did this after purchasing a bag of local rice and told us we need to adapt to the changes of his regime, importation of foreign rice was closed and the available foreign rice became really expensive and we had to start preparing and appreciating our homemade/local rice, that was a good one though, because now we can boost of better Nigeria rice.
His changes affected many, the inflation in the country was crazy.
It was just the beginning of the ruin in Nigeria economy and currency, he started the damage.
Funny how the older citizens of my country believed in him because of his leadership during the military regime they believe he was coming with a new hope and positive changes, they were surprised at the kind of changes he brought to the country, based on his previous reputation during the military regime, everyone expected better and had hope.
The changes he brought during his democratic tenure happens to be the beginning of a bad economy in Nigeria, hardship , he destroyed the economy , currency and the destruction is still effective till date.
During his campaign, tackling insecurity was one among his three major manifestos, but he never did.
Churches were still bombed more often, kidnapping was still on going and there was no form of security.
He ordered the death of young people who came out for a peaceful protest against brutality, bad government and every other form of wickedness in the country,which we can't forget till date.
Former ,President Buhari is that leader that Nigerians can't forget easily, a president that we supported and elected but at the end his leadership we weren't considered, his manifestos weren't fulfilled, some claim he practiced tribalism and nepotism during his leadership, I believe it favoured some, but not all.
The motto of his political party was "Change", he actualized his mission to change the country in eight years, not just ordinary changes but remarkable changes that affects us negatively, affected citizens greatly and till date.
