The little Man Saga

The moment my elder sister came home with the DVD plate filled with various collection of movies, I glanced at it and was instantly attracted to the name "Little man" , an attraction that is still very strong even til this very day. The movie is a 2006 comedy about a tiny man infiltrating a childless family losing as a baby to steal back jewelry.

The film starts off with a criminal of miniature stature named Calvin being released from prison after serving time for his crimes. He is picked up by his old time accomplice Percy P who is of normal height by the way. Percy has a deluded dream of becoming a rapper but is extremely terrible at it.

The two newly united friends plan to conduct a rubie robbery that will change their lives permanently and make up for wasted time. The two begin operations and right before they could leave, the police arrives. Trying to avoid being caught and losing the loot, Calvin hides it in the bag of a lady who was also in the store at that period thus evading the securities.

Calvin and Percy follows the lady until they discover where she lives. They devise a plan of infiltrating the home by dressing Calvin as a baby, putting him in a baby basket and dropping him on the front porch of the family for them to adopt him since he already possesses baby features. The plan worked as the lady (Vanessa) with the jewelry in her bag was desperate for a child and decides to adopt the baby convincing her husband Darryl to keep the baby believing it was a sign that the heavens want them both to be parents.

In his nearly adopted home, Calvin pretends to be a real baby mimicking their speech patterns and even dressing up like one. He still displays his grown up personalities which only arouses the suspicion of Darryl and Vanessa's dad. But with time the family comes to accept their new baby as part of the home after series of bond except for Grandpa who was even sent off to a retirement home but installs a camera in the doll and gives it to Calvin as a gift.

The little man continues to search for the jewelry in the house which further boosts the suspicion, he tries to steal it back several times but is unsuccessful. As he continues to stay with the family while he searches for a Rubie, Calvin begins to develop a soft spot for the family largely due to abandonment issues he had growing up.

While all this is going down,the kingpin who told Calvin and Percy to steal the jewelry is on their neck to deliver else they experience pain. Scared by this threats, Calvin slips up and is caught talking like an adult by his adopted dad. He comes clean telling Darryl everything but is still kicked out of the house. Just as he is about to leave, he notices his thugs sent by his employee to cause damage to the family and steal the Rubie and together with Darryl, both men are able to defeat the intruders. After the conflict, Calvin decides to turn himself over to the police but is stopped by Darryl who is already fond of him. He is accepted into the family and they all live happily ever after.

This movie has been a long time favorite of mine for as long as I can remember, it might not have a lot of positive lessons attached to it but one thing I still hold dear to me from watching it is that even terrible people can change as everybody deserves a second chance and also nobody is born bad, they just made bad choices.

Some of my favorite scenes of the movie would be when Calvin fought with a dog, struggle for breast milk, forcing a kiss on the white lady and his last fight with the intruders. Watching Calvin drive the old man nuts always come cracks me up. Grandpa was convinced the baby was out to get him, taking his stuff and whenever he complained he was called delusional or crazy 🤣 🤣. His camera doll was able to catch Calvin do grown up stuffs and that brought him closure in the end.
Overall I give the movie a 9.8 as it is always ever green and enjoyable even after all this years.
