Are you referring to the figure on the steps to the left of the Pope in that first pic? The one so black that you can't even look at it, but only at the place empty of light where it is?
It's posts - and times - like these I am glad I am not Catholic. In regards to my faith, it is the same as my politics. I am sovereign, and the only ruler I need. I like to quote Henley:

Actually, no, but now that you mention it... I got the impression of the Devil from the broadcast that showed the Pope walking through St.Peter's square that night, all alone in the dark... I couldn't find the exact image unfortunately.
I envy your peace. Even for a lapsed Catholic like myself it's impossible to distance yourself from the Church completely. I'll be watching the Conclave to see what becomes of the Church..
