I recommend you read about Emilio Zapata, and Pancho Villa. Mexico did achieve independence from colonial European powers, although it took longer.

You are sovereign. Your will is necessary for you to act, and no one but you can will yourself into action. You can be coerced, as you point out, but that does not compel your will to action as desired by overlords. Many people choose to comply, but they themselves must will themselves to act as their masters desire.
Because of this fact, slavery is a lie. It cannot exist, and human being cannot be property. They can be craven, and act as their masters desire, but they remain sovereign when they do. You are wise to watch the willing slave more carefully than overlords, because they are the source of overlords' power.
