I hope you are all well. Today I want to talk to you about a book I started reading recently. This book appeared on several platforms, and at the time, many people were talking about it with the excitement of someone who had read something good. So I decided to give it a try, even though I don't usually read this type of story. The book is called: The King's Perfume.
It is a love story set in a monarchy. It takes place amid war, revolutions, and reforms (normal for those times), with court intrigue, romance, drama, and adventure in a fantasy world consisting of the kingdoms of Mishnok and Lacrontte.
The book tells the story of Emily Malhore, daughter of prestigious perfumers in the kingdom of Mishnok, with two loving and protective parents and two beautiful sisters. Emily's life is relatively comfortable. But her peace is gradually disrupted by the growing tensions of the war that has been ravaging her kingdom for years. The war between the faltering kingdom of Mishnok and the powerful kingdom of Lacrontte.
Beyond these tensions, the injustices, and how the war is bleeding the pockets of the people, Emily and her family are just trying to survive and live in peace. But everything changes when, overnight, Emily catches the attention of Prince Stefan Denavritz, heir to the throne of Mishnok. And soon Emily's peaceful and orderly life becomes chaotic and dramatic. But what at first seemed like a fairy tale soon turns into a whirlwind of love, hate, betrayal, and struggle, where Emily must decide how she wants to live her life and how she wants to be loved, whether by Prince Stefan or King Magnus.
This book is easy to read, not heavy or overly detailed. Each chapter is linear and has an entertaining rhythm that keeps you from getting lost between the lines or in too many vague descriptions, which works against it. It is basically a fantasy and romance book, so the author takes a lot of creative liberty, sometimes justified, sometimes not so much. The book has certain inconsistencies regarding some events, both minor and slightly more significant, but they do not affect the reading beyond making one think “but... or how...”. The plot can be a little confusing at times or lack development, but this may vary depending on the reader, because this is a well-known book with a large fandom. And as usual, criticism of the book is colored by those who get carried away by the emotion and drama it generates (because it is exciting in some ways) and those who seek more coherence between the lines or a deeper narrative meaning (which is not always sought). Sometimes people just want to read something beautiful and entertaining.
The story has a certain emotional hook that keeps you reading, and relationships like Emily and Magnus's are “electrifying or entertaining,” although complex and not exactly healthy. This relationship is marked by desire and danger.
Emily is a character who, in my opinion, is easy to understand; she is just a young woman who lived according to what she was taught or what someone else told her. So when she is dragged into the world of royalty and political life, many of her initial perceptions change, especially her thoughts about war and the kingdom of Lacrontte, but above all about King Magnus.
Emily is what people often say about those who are always plagued by misfortune: “a warrior of God.” This girl can't seem to get out of one problem before she's in another, either because she gets herself into trouble or because she lets herself be dragged into it. She lived a very naive life, unaware of what was happening around her, even though she questioned certain things internally. Sometimes Emily feels like a spectator in her own life, as she is often forced to take orders from others.
The romance is beautiful, although somewhat complicated and sometimes turns into a kind of dark romance, because, well, Emily is just a commoner, Stefan is a prince, and Magnus is a king, and they are constantly at war with each other. Emily is the catalyst for them to hate each other even more, if possible. And the war and betrayals in the palace only seem to intensify, so blood will be shed.

Espero que se encuentren bien. Hoy les vengo a hablar de un libro que empecé a leer hace poco. Este es un libro que me salió en varias plataformas y que en su momento mucha gente hablaba de él con la ilusión de quien leyó algo bueno. Así que decidí darle una oportunidad, aunque no suela leer mucho este tipo de historias. El libro se llama: El perfume del rey.
Esta es una historia de amor en un contexto de monarquía. Se desarrolla en medio de una guerra, revoluciones y reformas (lo normal en esos tiempos), con intriga cortesana, romance, drama y aventura en un mundo de fantasía como lo son los reinos Mishnok y Lacrontte.
El libro nos presenta la historia de Emily Malhore, hija de unos prestigiosos perfumistas del reino de Mishnok, con dos padres amorosos y protectores y dos bellas hermanas. La vida de Emily es relativamente cómoda. Pero su paz, poco a poco, se ve trastocada por las crecientes tensiones por la guerra que lleva años azotando a su reino. La guerra entre el reino tambaleante de Mishnok y el poderoso reino de Lacrontte.
Más allá de estas tensiones, las injusticias y el cómo la guerra desangra los bolsillos del pueblo, Emily y su familia solo tratan de sobrevivir y vivir en paz. Pero todo cambia cuando, de la noche a la mañana, Emily llama la atención del Príncipe Stefan Denavritz, heredero al trono de Mishnok. Y pronto la vida pacífica y ordenada de Emily, se vuelve caótica y dramática. Pero lo que en un inicio parecía un cuento de hadas, pronto se transforma en una voraige de amor, odio, traiciones y luchas, donde Emily debe decidir cómo quiere vivir su vida y cómo quiere ser amada, ya sea por el príncipe Stefan o por el rey Magnus.
Este libro es de lectura sencilla, nada pesado o muy detallado. Cada capítulo va de forma lineal y con un ritmo entretenido que no hace que te pierdas entre líneas o muchas o vagas descripciones, cosa que le juega en contra. Es un libro básicamente de fantasía y romance, por lo que la autora se toma mucha libertad creativa, algunas veces justificada, otras veces no tanto. El libro presenta ciertas inconsistencias con respecto a algunos hechos, tanto menores como un poco más grandes, pero no afectan la lectura más allá de que uno piense “pero… o cómo…”. La trama puede resultar un poco confusa por momentos o con falta de desarrollo, pero este hecho puede variar según el lector, porque este es un libro bastante conocido y con un gran fandom. Y por lo normal, la crítica del libro se tiñe por quienes se dejan, llevar por la emoción y drama que genera el libro (porque sí emociona en algunos aspectos) y quienes buscan más coherencia entre líneas o un sentido narrativo más profundo (cosa que no siempre se busca). A veces las personas solo buscan leer algo bonito y entretenido.
La historia tiene un cierto enganche emocional que hace que uno siga leyendo y relaciones como la de Emily y Magnus son “electrizantes o entretenidas”, aunque compleja, no muy sana que digamos. Esta relación está marcada por el deseo y el peligro.
Emily es un personaje que a mi parecer es sencillo de leer, solo es una joven que vivía según lo que le enseñaron o le dijo alguien más. Por lo que cuando se ve arrastrada al mundo de la realeza y a la vida política. Muchas percepciones que tenía en un inicio cambian, sobre todo su pensar sobre la guerra y el reino Lacrontte, pero sobre todo del rey Magnus.
Emily es lo que suelen decir de las personas que siempre le suceden desgracias: “una guerrera de Dios”. Esta chica no sale de un problema y ya está en otro, de los cuales se mete por propio pie o porque se deja arrastrar. Ella vivía una vida muy ingenua de lo que sucedía a su alrededor, aunque internamente se cuestionara ciertas cosas. A veces Emily se siente como una espectadora de su propia vida, pues muchas veces se ve obligada a estar a las órdenes de los demás.
El romance es bonito, aunque algo complicado y a veces se torna en una especie de romance oscuro, porque bueno, Emily es solo una plebeya, Stefan es un príncipe y Magnus un rey y se la viven haciéndose la guerra. Emily es el impulso para que se odien más si es posible. Y el conflicto bélico y las traiciones en el palacio solo parece intensificarse, así que la sangre va a correr.
