Recommendation Kengan Ashura: power struggles, violence, and the dehumanisation of fighters. [Eng/Esp]

I hope you are all well. Today I'm here to talk to you about an anime I saw a while ago and really liked. It's an action anime with brutal fights, quite a lot of violence, some gore, and a visual and animation style that you don't see very often in anime, but which certainly brings something new to the aesthetics of this type of anime. This anime is called: Kengan Ashura.
This anime poses a simple but powerful question: What do you consider to be the most effective way to resolve a conflict? And although there are many peaceful methods of resolving problems, this story tells us that the most effective way is violence, using physical force to eliminate your opponent.
This is how, within the story of this anime, we are told that since the Edo period, Japanese merchants did whatever it took to win the favour of the palace and thus dominate the market over their competitors. To do so, they resorted to deception, theft, assault, and even murder. This would trigger unprecedented carnage, giving Japan the name "Kingdom of Asura" at that time. Due to the uncontrolled violence, merchants would consult the shogun on how to "control" the violence in order to use it to resolve disputes between merchants, and his response would be: organised battles, that is, duels where the winner advances to the final and takes everything.
Centuries have passed and this practice still continues. Japanese businessmen resolve their disputes through clandestine fights between fighters called "Kengan Gladiators", each representing a respective businessman, where the only way to win is to knock the other fighter unconscious or kill him.
The story introduces us to our protagonists, Kazuo Yamashita, an ordinary and somewhat cowardly office worker, and Tokita "Ashura" Ohma, a young fighter who lives to fight. Kazuo meets Tokita while watching him beat up an older man twice his size. After witnessing this fight, something awakens within Kazuo, an emotion, a violent and primitive feeling that ends up driving him into this world. By chance, Kazuo ends up becoming Tokita's manager, and both find themselves involved in a world full of violence, death, and blood, while the powerful drink champagne.
Tokita, nicknamed "The Asura", is a fierce, impulsive, arrogant young man obsessed with fighting and strength. Despite his dazzling and beastly start, as the episodes unfold, a traumatic childhood and a complex relationship with violence are revealed, even though his life revolves around it.
This story revolves around fighting and violence, much of it stemming from the Kengan tournament, where many great fighters like Tokita seek to crush their opponents. One of the strongest and most brutal opponents Tokita will have to defeat is Raian of the Kure clan, a dynasty of genetically engineered assassins. He will not be the only one who wants to destroy "The Asura".
What many may not like or find strange is the 3D animation, which, although it may seem robotic or "stiff" at first, I believe that as you watch it, you can appreciate a certain fluidity and technique in the fights. The fights are dynamic and well coordinated. They are varied, with different fighting styles, whose logic and technique are well explained, which means they do not feel so surreal or exaggerated, although they still have a touch of fiction.
Something I liked is that the fights are not unnecessarily prolonged, which allows for greater fluidity between episodes. The Kengan tournament works as a metaphor for the corporate world and competition between people or entities. It has several emotional moments comparable to those in Baki, which adds an emotional and sentimental character to the story.

Espero que se encuentren bien. Hoy les vengo a hablar de un anime que vi hace tiempo y me gustó bastante. Este es un anime de acción, peleas brutales, con bastante violencia, algo de gore y con un estilo visual y de animación que no se ve mucho en el anime, pero que ciertamente aporta algo nuevo a la estética de este tipo de anime. Este anime se llama: Kengan Ashura.
Este anime nos pone plantea una simple pero fuerte pregunta: ¿Cuál consideras que es la manera más efectiva de resolver un conflicto? Y aunque existen muchos métodos pacíficos, de resolver los problemas. Esta historia nos dice que la forma más efectiva es: La violencia, usar la fuerza física para eliminar a tu adversario.
Es así como dentro de la historia de este anime, se nos cuenta que desde el periodo Edo, los comerciantes japoneses, hacían lo que sea para ganarse el favor del palacio y así dominar el mercado por sobre sus competidores. Para ello recurrían, a engaño, robo, asalto e incluso asesinato. Esto desencadenaría una carnicería sin precedentes, otorgándole en aquellos tiempos a Japón el nombre de “Reino de Asura”. Debido a la violencia descontrolada, los comerciantes consultarían al shogun sobre como “controlar” la violencia para usarla para resolver disputas entre los comerciantes y su respuesta seria: batallas organizadas, es decir, duelos donde el ganador avanza hasta la final y se lo lleva todo.
Han pasado siglos y esta práctica aún se mantiene, los empresarios japoneses resuelven sus disputas mediante peleas clandestinas entre luchadores denominados “Gladiadores Kengan”, cada uno representando a un respectivo empresario, donde la única manera de ganar es dejando inconsciente al otro peleador o matándolo.
La historia nos presenta a nuestros protagonistas, Kazuo Yamashita, un oficinista común y un poco cobarde, y a Tokita “Ashura” Ohma, un joven luchador que vive como pelea. Kazuo conoce a Tokita mientras lo ve moliendo a golpes a un hombre mayor que doblaba el tamaño de Tokita. Tras ver esta pelea, algo despierta dentro de Kazuo, una emoción, un sentimiento violento y primitivo que termina impulsándolo a entrar a este mundo. Por azares del destino, Kazuo, se termina convirtiendo en el manager de Tokita y ambos se verán envueltos en un mundo lleno de violencia, muerte y sangre, mientras los poderosos beben champán.
Tokita, apodado como “El Asura”, es un joven feroz, impulsivo, arrogante y obsesionado con las peleas y la fuerza. A pesar de su inicio deslumbrante y bestial, se va revelando con el pasar de los episodios una infancia traumática y una relación compleja con la violencia, a pesar de que su vida gira en torno a ella.
Esta historia gira en torno a las peleas y a la violencia, muchas de ellas iniciadas a partir del torneo Kengan, donde muchos grandes peleadores como Tokita, buscan aplastar a sus oponentes, uno de los más fuertes y bestiales que le tocara a Tokita vencer será Raian del clan Kure, una dinastía de asesinos perfeccionados genéticamente, él no será el único que desee acabar con “El Asura” ·
Lo que a muchos puede que no les guste o les parezca raro, sea la animación 3D, que, aunque al principio parezca robótica o “tiesa”, considero que a medida que se va viendo se permite apreciar cierta fluidez y técnica en los combates. Las peleas son dinámicas y bien coordinadas. Son variadas con distintos estilos de lucha y de pelea, cuya lógica y técnica es bien explicadas, lo que permite que no se sienta tan surrealista o exagerada, aunque siguen teniendo su toque de ficción.
Algo que me gustó es que no alargan innecesariamente las peleas, lo que permite mayor fluidez entre episodios. El torneo Kengan funciona como metáfora del mundo corporativo y a la competencia entre personas o entidades, tiene varios momentos emotivos comparables con los de Baki, lo que le agrega un carácter emotivo y emocional a la historia.

Mi miedo con este anime es que las peleas fueran igual de largas que las de Dragon Ball, que duraban casi que 4 capitulos jskaska. Pero, es bueno saber que no es así.
