Smart glasses – between a dream and a mirror of an inevitable future. Glasses that see more than you.

Smart glasses – between a dream and a mirror of an inevitable future. Glasses that see more than you.

Google has lifted the curtain, and behind it, at TED2025, a wearable future was revealed. A tiny gadget, but with colossal power: real-time translations, visual recognition, interactive 3D maps and even... poetry on demand. In short, a discreet partner that amplifies your reality, without replacing it.

It's a technological leap that would have seemed ridiculous a decade ago. Today, however, it outlines a new type of relationship between humans and digital: one that is integrated, natural, almost invisible.

However, no magic comes without a cost. The battery of these glasses? Limited. The price? Not at all friendly. Privacy? A dilemma. What do you do when what you see can be recorded? When a banal conversation with a stranger becomes "data"? It's a promising future, but one that requires a redefinition of boundaries – moral, social, personal.

  • Will we become a species with lenses?

Just as the smartphone became an extension of the palm, smart glasses could become an extension of our vision. Especially if giants like Samsung enter the scene. If they manage to bring accessibility and autonomy, what seems like a fad today, tomorrow will be the norm. And we won't even remember when it all began.

But the question remains: do we really need them? Or do we just want them because the future comes beautifully packaged?

One thing is certain: we're not going back. Once you've seen what can be, it's hard to like what was. Smart glasses are not just a gadget. They are a symbol of the direction we're heading: an augmented present, a transparent future, a hybrid man between sense and technology.
