Ballerina (2025) - A masterpiece of the genre, which manages to be both brutal and of rare delicacy.
Ballerina (2025) from the John Wick universe really manages to bring that freshness necessary to the action genre, while maintaining the brutal elegance that we have become accustomed to.
What struck me the most was the way in which the main actress manages to convey an incredible strength without losing a single second of her femininity or that trace of human vulnerability. We see her evolving like a spring tensioned to the maximum. There is an almost painful elegance in the way she moves — every gesture, from a simple glance in the mirror to a fatal dodge, retains the rigor of that iron discipline learned in ballet school. She is not an invincible assassin from the first moment; she is a person who bleeds, who feels fear, but who transforms it into fuel.
Visually, the film is a gem. The colors are dense, saturated, oscillating between the sharp cold of winter and the hypnotic warmth of neon lights. The sets seem to be taken from a baroque painting reinterpreted in a modern and somber key. There are entire sequences in which the choreography of the fights becomes so fluid that you forget that you are watching a violent confrontation; it seems more like a silent play, where the bodies speak of honor, betrayal and suffering. The contrast between the fine silk and the cold metal of the weapons creates a permanent aesthetic tension that keeps you connected to the screen.
What attracted me enormously was the exploration of that hidden world, governed by archaic rules and strict codes of honor. It is not just a story about blind revenge, but about the integration into a caste of warriors who live on the border between myth and reality. We see how past traumas are shaped through inhuman training until they become a new identity. It is fascinating to observe how the character manages to maintain his moral compass in an environment that tries by all means to rip out his soul.
Beyond the technical spectacle, the film left me with the impression of a meditation on resilience. It poses the question: how much of us remains intact after life takes us through its hardest trials? Ballerina shows us that although scars remain, they can become part of a new armor. It is a story about the power to claim your own destiny when the rest of the world sees you only as an instrument.
The film manages to honor the legacy of this cinematic universe, but forges its own path, much more lyrical and introspective. It is, without a doubt, a dance of death executed with a technical perfection and a passion that make you want to rewatch certain scenes as soon as they are over.
