My Favorite Battle Lineup - Speed, Armor, Power, Opportunity & Heal

The Splinterlands battleground is so dynamic that every card choice and arrangement can turn the tide of battle. Crafting a winning line-up requires a keen eye for synergy and strategy. My favorite approach is a combination of Speed, Armor, Power, Opportunity, and Heal. This line-up has consistently stood out as my go-to, delivering thrilling wins for at least 70% of the total times I use it. As a non-pro player, this curated team is a balance of raw power and tactical versatility.

For me, water Summoners and Monsters, particularly Kelya Frendul, Nerissa Tridawn, Deeplurker, and Merdaali Guardian have been my most dependable set of characters that have secured 70% of my battle winnings if the ruleset permits the use of these four characters.

1. Kelya Frendul - Speed and Armor Booster

Kelya Frendul is a Water Summoner of choice that grants a +1 boost to both speed and armor for all friendly monsters. The speed advantage increases the chances of friendly monsters attacking first, dodging enemy hits, and overwhelming opponents before they retaliate. This often shifts the momentum of battles, especially in low-mana or medium-mana matches where each attack counts.

The summoner also provides an armor boost to friendly monsters. This protects the monsters from melee and ranged attacks, making it harder for opponents to break through and deal direct damage to my health points. Kelya Frendul therefore enhances the speed and defense of my team when it summons monster units.

2. Nerissa Tridawn - Unleashing Raw Power

Nerissa Tridawn is one of the water monsters I know that has no special ability, yet, is laden with so much "raw power". She does immense magic damage that serves as the heavy hitter. Being a magic attack monster, her ability to bypass armor and deal direct damage to health makes her indispensable against high-defense tanks or monsters that rely on shield-based survival.

At basic level 1, Nerissa Tridawn, a 9-mana Water Splinter monster, boasts of high health and massive -3 damage that can obliterate enemy frontlines. With improved +1 Speed and +1 Armor from Kelya Frendul, she becomes more durable and a swift heavy-hitter capable of soaking up damage while dishing out punishing blows. I love placing Nerissa Tridawn at the first position in the battleline.

3. Deeplurker - Opportunity Strategist

Deeplurker has always been the engine of destruction in my strategy. The 6-mana melee attack monster complements Nerissa with its Opportunity ability, targeting low-health enemies with precision. Its high speed, further enhanced by Kelya, allows it to strike quickly, picking off vulnerable backline units before they can unleash their potential, making it a critical component of the strategy’s aggressive edge.

Its Opportunity ability allows it to target the weakest monsters in the opponent's lineup with its -3 melee damage, which ensures that their support units are taken out early. I see the attack meted by Deeplurker as "targeted". It is not one of those aimless jabs thrown into the air. If it succeeds in staying through 4 rounds, Deeplurker will always destroy one to three enemy monsters. This creates a domino effect as the opponent’s formation collapses without key healers or damage dealers.

I like placing Deeplurker at the third or fourth position, depending on the allowance of the manna cap for the battle. I try not to keep it last to avoid being targeted by an enemy monster with a sneak ability.

4. Merdaali Guardian - Tank Healer and Endurance Catalyst

Merdaali Guardian is a non-attacking monster that plays an important support role in my battle line-up with its Tank Heal ability, which restores health to my frontline monster every round. This monster made me understand the need for "healing" monsters in all Splinter sets.

Merdaali Guardian, costing just 3 mana, serves as the linchpin for sustainability with its Tank Heal ability. This healing ensures the team’s staying power, allowing the line-up to endure prolonged battles while maintaining offensive pressure. The Guardian’s low mana cost also provides flexibility to include other units, while its health benefits from Kelya’s Armor buff, keeping it alive longer to support the team. I place this tank healer just after Deeplurker. I also ensure it doesn't stand last if the manna cap permits to prevent it from the attack of enemy monsters with sneak ability.

Together, these monsters create a synergy of Speed, Armor, Power, Opportunity, and Heal. I try to adapt the line-up to adapt to various rulesets and opponents, because it strikes a balance between relentless offense and resilient defense that makes it a joy to play and a nightmare to face.

A Battle Experience

In a typical battle example, I drew this 36 manna cap battle which allowed me to field my favorite 3 water monsters alongside my favourite summoner. Like other battles won with this strategy, it was a walkover and seamless win. See screenshots below.

This Strategy Always Works

This line-up, like I said, works 70% of the time as it harmoniously blends offense and defense. The speed and armor boost provide survivability, while the Opportunity and Tank Heal abilities ensure consistent damage and sustainability. My team capitalizes on every advantage by targeting weak links and outpacing enemies.

For me, this team of Water Splinters- Kelya Frendul, Nerissa Tridawn, Deeplurker, and Merdaali Guardian is a balance of power and strategy. They represent an ever-winning strategy for me. You too can try out the combination.
