The Day I Earned My First Money

Namaste everyone, happy new week to you all.

My first earning was indeed a memorable one, that day still remain fresh in my memory because that was the first time I could actually say I made money from my efforts. The feeling was way very different. Before then, the only means I had money was either from my parents or I received them as gifts but I had never earned money as a result of my labour aside that day.

I was quite younger then and it all happened during our church annual children’s program. Normally the children’s program usually happen on August whenever we had a long vacation, we would always go to church and do lots of rehearsals on the things that would be presented especially on the D-day.

Other years, I had always participated in drama, quiz competition, sword drill, dance and all of that but that particular year was different. Our coordinator called out me and some other girl, he gave us a scripture passage to read and recite off hand and that was psalm119 from the beginning to the end which turns out to be the longest chapter in the bible.

He told us that after 3 days, whoever amongst the two of us that is able to recite it very well off hand would be allowed to do the presentation the following Sunday.

My heart skipped because how on earth was I supposed to read and recite all of that in just three days, still I wanted to try and prove to be worthy of making the presentation on Sunday.

I started reading right away and after three days we both stood before him to make the presentation, I had read oo but I forgot a lot of the verses and that was quite annoying.

While presenting it to him, though I missed some verses but it still turned out so well, and after our rehearsals we were both anxious to know who would be chosen between the two of us. Fortunately I was chosen and that propelled me to go home and prepare better.

On the day of the event, I was panicking because of the large congregation, I had never spoken at an occasion with such a large number of people.

So I summoned courage to start, initially I kept starring at the adult’s faces all glaring at me and opening their bibles to check if I was making any mistake, I was so scared that my voice was shaking behind the microphone.

But with time, I became so confident and I spoke so boldly that till now I am surprised how that happened. Almost the whole congregation came out, giving me money while I was still talking. Deep down, it boosted my confidence the more and the kept giving me money, I was really happy and my mum was very excited too and proud of me.

They all made me feel like I broke the Guinness book of records. After the event, I took the money to my coordinator, he said he was so proud of me and he asked me to take out some and put as my tithe in church while I keep the remaining ones for myself.

I took the remaining ones, home, I showed it to my mum. I finally used the money to buy myself a school bag, till now, that school bag gives me memories of that day.
