My Favorite Ways to Unwind
I have always thought that joy and calmness could be derived from living on luxuries where you have no struggles, no stress, no work and all others, they all seem appealing though. Who wouldn't want to wake up in a beautiful mansion, drive a fancy car, go on a trip and have endless resources at their disposal? Uhhh! That’s beautiful but to me it doesn’t suit well.
I once asked myself, if I were to have all the luxuries and live like a princess all my life, that will certainly be fun but definitely not fulfilling to me.
Trust me, I am not trying to say that living a luxurious life is bad, no! Everyone's path to joy and calmness is different. For me, relaxing has never been about doing something loud, expensive, or flashy. In fact, I find those kinds of things more stressful than calming, I don’t feel at peace in crowded restaurants, malls, or noisy places. Instead, I find calm in simple things that feel natural and meaningful, that’s what slow living is to me.
After a whole long day or if I am going through stressful situations and I just want to brighten up my day I’ll have to connect with people. Spending time with loved ones, friends, and like-minded people is my happy place. Being around people who understand me makes me feel safe and happy. There’s no pressure to pretend or to impress, all I just want at that moment is to be happy and free, to laugh, and crack jokes talk about things and just have fun.
Honestly, these times remind me that we don’t need so much to be happy, life is very simple and I try as much to live and keep it simple. Most people fail to realize that one of the greatest asset we could have is people, my early childhood days was quite lonely and when I started reconnecting with people, making friends I had to be very intentional about my relationships. My friends are quite fun to be with, they could crack jokes that would make you laugh out your stress, they are always willing to help and are very supportive.
Another thing that brings me peace is being around children, I am the eldest child and my siblings are still much younger than I am so I spend time watch them play and play alongside with them sometimes. There is something so special about watching them play and laugh, there are always so innocent, they laugh cheerfully and cry so real.
They don’t worry about anything, and they just enjoy what is in right in front of them. I learn a lot from them most , watching them reminds me to slow down and do the same. Seeing their joy in little things makes me feel lighter, calmer, and more grateful.
Another relieving moment is when I watch K-dramas especially hospital scene K-dramas. I know it sounds weird, but there's something about the doctor-patient relationships and the medical cases that draws me in. Together with my medical career I don’t just know why but watching them makes me feel relieved.
Most times I try studying a concept and it feels like I am not getting anything I will just have to pause and see an episode of a hospital scene k-drama, I don’t still figure out how but it just have a way of resetting my mood and inspiring me to keep pressing on. It's like a comforting escape from school stress sometimes.
These are the things that bring me peace, and they’re what make my chaotic and stressful days worth living.
