If I could make a wish...or rather, A change...
Genes are just something that is kind of crazy. We are all a make up of our genes. It's a part of nature that we just can't fight. It's crazy how you find some kind of traits or genetic attributes in you but when you look at your mom and dad you don't see yourself getting it from any of them. Only to find out that one of your great ancestors possessed such a trait and it escaped other of his descendants and passed it down to you. It can be really unfair especially if it's not a good one.
Imagine when growing up with your friends in school or maybe in the neighborhood while you were still kids and as years began to pass by you began to see some of them getting taller and bigger than you in size and it's like they didn't carry you along. I'm that guy. Back in secondary school I was among the team little. I even got nicknamed shortbread because of my stature. Couldn't say I wasn't offended by it.
But as time went by, miraculously, I began to add up little by little in height, but I still had that forever young look. At some point I began to sprout some fragments of beards on my jaw. This gave me some hope. I was beginning to feel proud of myself. Some of my close friends then, even though they were bigger than me had no single hair on there face. I felt this gave me a hedge over them you know. But then again, years began to pass by and it was like the little beards refused to increase. Meanwhile, my friends who had nothing on their face began to grow beards and before I knew it it has surpassed my own. How disrespectful.
Aside from my close friends and family, most people seeing me would underestimate my age because I look younger than I actually am. I remember when I was working as a security guard when I was done with my tertiary institution and then a security officer in the school that I finished came to the institute I was working, and when he saw me he was like I shouldn't rush things, that I should at least get into school first and when I am done I can then think of doing such kind of job, and I was like "I am done with school, Sir." That left the man speechless. Even people around him asked me to repeat what I said asif they didn't hear me the first time.
Few days ago when I was carrying out my clearance, when I entered into the office of the Dean of my college to sign my form he asked me if I was the owner of the form and I told him yes. He said, "Wow, you're a big boy o!" I know that what he meant by that statement is that I finished school way to quick, not knowing I wasn't as young as he thought.
Don't get me wrong, I am not that old, but I'm just not as young as people think. I just wished my physical look rhymed with my age, or at least close to. If I had a Genie that would definitely be among my wishlist. Sometimes I receive some disrespect from people I am older than and I am like "if only this one knew that I am not his mate...", but I eventually get over it.
But even though I couldn't do anything about it in the past and still can't do anything about it presently, I am still optimistic for the future. Like I said earlier, "I am not that old". So in some years to come, who knows, maybe my present look would be used as a reference to show once upon a time I had a small body, but right now that small body got bigger!

In my own case, I looked bigger than many my friends back then in school, but they all of a sudden outgrew me. The beards own is also applicable to me, I don't know what really is the problem, this small one I have had refused to add up for over 10 years now😅.
