Creator or Consumer — which one are you?

At certain points in life it is important to ask if you are consuming more or creating more. The way it works is that as we collect we also give out. I remember when my pastor gave quite a funny but insightful illustration. He asked a girl to get up and breathe in oxygen and hold it in without giving out carbon dioxide.
For the first few seconds she was still coping fine. But as the seconds kept on adding up she couldn't take it anymore and without the permission of the Pastor she had to give out oxygen because she was already choked up. This basically meant that if all we do is take and not give we choke ourselves up. Until then I never saw it that way.

We consume other people's products, listen to other people's music, watch other people's movies without stopping to think what it would be like if we actually created ours. A common one is spending long hours scrolling aimlessly through contents on the social media, contents that were created by other people. This doesn't mean we have to be content creators before we see ourselves as ones that have potential of creating things. In my own perspective we are all creators. Or better still, Artists.

As long as we can create something that makes us artists. Artistry simply means bringing an idea to live. It feels easier to consume than to create. But then we all know that nothing good comes easy. Creators are recognized by their name, whereas consumers are only recognized by their numbers. For instance, we can know that there is an musician known as Beyonce (creator), but when we come down to her fan base we can say she has 10 million fans (consumers). No one is interested in the name of the consumers, they are more interested in the Creator.
Your creation is the fastest way to bring awareness of your name to people. When your creation is appealing to people they will always want to know the name behind it. The truth is that we are all consumers in one way or the other. But we can be both. But some people prefer to be only one of them—and that is being consumers. I've thought about it and I've decided that I do not want to consume more than I create.
