🇦🇺 In 1964, there was a proposal from Australia to annex Nauru, relocate its population to the larger Curtis Island, and grant them Australian citizenship. The offer was declined by Nauru.

Why did Nauru decline it? Have Australia tried again?
Nauru declined cuz they wanted full sovereignty, not just citizenship without control. Australia’s offer to relocate them to Curtis Island didn’t include independence. Haven’t seen any recent attempts from Australia to revisit this
