Last Monday was not a normal day at all. It all started last week, when the coordinator of my extracurricular subject came to the sports delegation with the order that we should all participate in a healthy walk that would be organized on Monday, nurse's day, to promote and raise awareness of the importance of nursing.
I am not a student who argues with his professors, so I assisted almost against my own will, as it meant going to the university on my day off from classes.
When we got there, it was very early and there were only 3 of us other sports students. We were few, but we decided to wait. After almost an hour, we called the coordinator to ask what was going on. He said important things, such as a) that he would not go, b) to take pictures to prove that we were there, and c) to look for the nursing professors.
It was not a nice situation. But we were already there, so we looked for the nursing professors and students to finish it once and for all.
In front of the nursing building we found nursing students getting a speech, and the 3 of us had no idea what to do.
A professor arrived saying that all we needed were the flags to start the walk, and that we had to go get them.
It was already late, and I had to go to work, so I decided to speed things up and look for them myself.
When I came back from looking for the flags, there were already more people, which quieted me down..... I handed in the flags, and they gave them back to me, they said that someone had to carry them. So, that's how I went from being a student who didn't want to be there to being the flag bearer for the walk.
It was an interesting experience. I didn't know there were so many people studying nursing, neither that there were so many boys wanting to be nurses. It made me think that there are certainly people of all kinds, with goals and objectives, wanting to follow their dreams, to help others, and also, that nursing is one of the most important and humane professions. And that is something that makes life beautiful.
Congratulations to all nurses who help and care for the sick. See you next time, hivers.
