RR: Repentance through rehabilitation.

Amidst the onerous days of exams, it becomes hard to find a moment of respite even, and finding time to relax your mind and compile your thoughts to present some writing is nearly impossible. This is what I am going through these days. Writing has always been my favorite activity but to write an exquisite set of sentences, a proper relaxation of mind is mandatory. I was not in the mood to restart the journey again but the hive learner’s prompt compelled me to express my views.

Every society or country has its own rules and regulations based mainly on ethical and social criteria and one who violates them is supposed to be a criminal. Criminals can be of different types :

• Some commit crimes just for their desires and greed.
• Some crimes are committed unintentionally by mistakes
• Some are committed by good souls because they compelled to do so by society or by some persons.
• Some crimes are committed in compromised mental state.

But in constitutions and regulations, the state of crime is considered for punishment more than the situation under which the crime was committed. And due to this,ratio for reproducibility of crimes is very high because there are very high chances that punishment further makes the criminal intransigent. I have already written relating to this topic probably a year ago.

I believe that the actual purpose of punishment is to discourage crimes. So apart from punishments, many other means can also be employed to curb crimes. Rehabilitation is one of them. Rehabilitation can be defined as proper education, counseling, and guidance of criminals under experts to end their criminal mindset and make them society-friendly.

Rehabilitation can be a very key tool in the rectification process. Through proper counseling, the negative mindset of a person can be neutralized properly. Rehabilitation through appropriate education will detoxify the toxins residing inside that person.

But it is also true that rehabilitation will not yield fruits in every case as those who have developed criminal states by succumbing themselves to greed, desires, violence, and extremism. Rehabilitation will not work for them. It will be just a waste of time, money and effort. They are the persons who do not have any sort of feelings. Their selfishness and coldness do not let them revert from their wrong paths.

Yet we cannot ignore the importance of the rehabilitation process as well. Rehabilitation can be done for

•Juvenile criminals
•Criminals who are drug abusive
•Criminals who committed crimes because they were abandoned by society
•Criminals who were supposed to do crime
• Criminals who committed crimes because they thought this was essential to save them.

And many other cases as well.

Talking mainly about murderers and fraudsters, I will say yes it is not an easy act to take the life of a human. It demands a lot of courage. A normal person will think thousands of times before doing that. There could be many reasons for murders. Some murders are actually some sort of vengeance while some are acts of spreading terror. Before deciding on rehabilitation, the conditions and circumstances under which the murder was committed must be evaluated properly and the court must decide if the criminal deserves rehabilitation or not. Second case is of fraudsters, I believe it is a proper intentional act and I am not in favor of rehabilitating such persons. I believe such persons must be dealt with iron hand so that a precedent is set for others to see what the consequences of frauding and cheating someone.

Conclusively , it can be said that rehabilitation could be more effective than punishments if it is performed properly on right person. Rehabilitation can revert a person to normal life. But it will not help any person who is not willing to change himself.
