Lahore Fort; An emblem of glory
Lahore fort is an emblem of resilience, glory, architecture and art of Mughal empire. Although it existed far before Mughals ,yet its vital importance is due to glimpses of Mughal architecture in it. It was initilly constructed by Mamlooki Emperor Balban but later on Mongols destroyed it. Lodhi and Khiljis also appointed theu commanders here to keep eye on northern invaders but it gained much importance in Muggal empire. It was Mughal Badhsha Akbar who order to renovate the citadel and make it resilient to foreign invaders.
Shahjahan and Aurangzaib later enhanced the beauty of fort and constructed many important structure. Later on Marhattas took control of fort and then it fell into Sikh confederency and became an abode for the great sikh emperor Maharaja Ranjit Singh. During sikh rule, Gurdwaras and Mandirs were constructed. That is why the fort keeps an equal importance for both Muslims and Sikhs.
During my recent visit to Shahi Qilla, I got the privilege to explore those walls who witnesses many invaders, constructors, residers and generations. Centuries passed but the wall remain stoodfast. I along with my friend chose the afternoon time to visit fort because I wanted to see sun setting from the highes pillar of the Palace to experience what the kings and princes used to feel standing there.
Alamgiri gate was close so we entered from the side door after buying the ticket and after strolling down ,we went directly to Diwan e Aam.This place was used to attend courts to run state affairs. After that, we went to many Burjes. Our main place was Sheesh Mahal which was built for emperor Shah jahan.
Although the gold linings and expensive jewels were removed but still the palace was glowing its beauty by concave mirrors lined on its walls. The palce was properly ventilated and was far more better-engineered than current engineering pieces. I spent most of my time on sheesh Mahal. Diwan e khas was also worthy to see as we we tried to mimic them as well. Khilwat khana was properly designed to accomodate royal ladies . Along with this there was a moti masjid inside as well and a mandir constructed by marhattas.

The visit to fort was an exciting experience. Although I have visited earlie many times as well but everytime excitement and vibe was same. Among those walls, one wonders on the speed of time, courses of life, engineering, sharpness of human mind and strength of human body. Shahi fort is among tge UNESCO heritage site. There were many spots which were neglected and are dilapidating. The government must try to protect its heritage. Maintenance is needed . And along with this a proper security system is also essential.
