Brunts of climate change

Gone are the days when climate change was considered a looming threat as it is knocking every part of the world in one way or another. Climate change manifests as sky-high sizzling temperatures in some parts and freezing temperatures in others. Overall Earth's temperature is increasing each year and is breaking records from the last three years. Oceans are boiling, glaciers are melting, rivers are flooding and groundwater reserves are declining affecting the lives of thousands.

I am living in an area that is simultaneously withstanding the brunt of urban heat island effects and climate change.Lahore was famous for its rains and cold season in winter especially in the month of december. But from last few years , the temperature has risen to enormous level. December has not been that cold from previous years and the frequence of rain has also reduced.

The summer season has become too hard to live in Lahore now. Due to climate change, temperature has risen and the natural regulation of temperature has also declined due to deforestation, emission of industrial and vehicular gases, and cementization. There has been a lot of scarcity of rainfall. Due to the absence of necessary rain, the temperature stays elevated, crops are not getting proper nourishment and scorching heat is burning them due to dehydration. The crop output has reduced affecting overall agricultural growth.

If I talk about the country as a whole then 2022 has been a disastrous year when clouds burst and glaciers melted, precipitating inundation inmany regions of country coating billions of dollars. Due to mass displacement,there had been rapid increase in poverty ,water borne infections,unemploymemt, and social disparities.The total burden country has to suffer was about 30 bilion dollars.And all this was due to climate change.

Though personally I have not encountered any such situation fortunately when I had to displace due to climate change manifestations. But I am aware that with speed the global atmosphere is changing, it will not much far when everyone kf us will be displacing from one location to another because one place will become inhabitable after another.

Climate change has started showing its manifestations. Although it is included in Sustainable development goals,yet many super powers are not paying actual heed to it and ignoring this as trifle. Due to short term economical,financial and strategical gains,they are not taking essential steps that environment and Earth is demanding from them. And if this remains so , life on Earth will vanish soon.
