A MESSAGE TO LEADERS.
Leadership, no matter the setting, is never a smooth road paved only with praise. It is a journey where applause and criticism walk side by side. One day you are celebrated for your sacrifices, the next day you may be mocked for those same sacrifices. That is not failure; it is the reality of leadership.
To our amiable leaders, I must say this: do not lead with the expectation of constant gratitude. If you measure your worth by how often people praise you, you will be broken the first time criticism comes. Leadership demands a heart strong enough to be misunderstood, yet steady enough to keep serving. Even the most perfect example; Jesus Christ Himself... was hailed as “Good Teacher” one day, and the very next, the same crowd screamed, “Crucify Him.” If Christ could face such contradictions, why should we, who are human, expect otherwise?
Criticism, harsh as it may sound, is not always a sign of hatred, it is often a sign of visibility. Nobody throws stones at a tree without fruit. The moment you take a stand, expect voices that will try to shake you. A wise leader does not fold because of this; rather, he or she uses it as fuel to grow stronger. Your resilience in the face of critics will inspire more people than any amount of praise.
But let us also remember this: leadership is not a license to insult or to retaliate in anger. If leaders descend into the same quarrels as followers, they lose the very distinction that makes them leaders. Authority is not proven in shouting matches, but in restraint, calmness, and wisdom. Sometimes, silence is louder than any comeback, and maturity is more powerful than any insult.
To the ones being led, let us be careful with our words. Behind every effort lies sacrifice that many do not see. Throwing careless shades at those who carry responsibilities on their shoulders is easy, but it kills morale. If we cannot encourage, let us at least not destroy.
Leaders are not perfect; they will make mistakes. But a community that tears down its own pillars will collapse on itself. Criticism should correct, not condemn. Advice should build, not break. And praise, when due, should be given freely, not grudgingly.
So to our leaders: stay strong, stay wise, and keep your hearts soft but your skin tough. Do not harden into mean leaders because of critics; great leaders are not made by comfort, but by storms. And to the rest of us: let us remember that leaders are also human. What we give them in words, they carry in heart.
We ought to learn, grow, and walk together, not as enemies, rather in love building each other up.
Peace.🕊️
