Привіт! Сьогодні прочитав про те, що Ledger пропонує новий інструмент для збереження приватних ключів з допомогою додаткової карти. З одного боку це нібито гарантує те, що користувач не втратить секретну фразу. Адже можна створити кілька таких карт. Наскільки я розумію ця карта розблокує гаманець за необхідності й дозволяє здійснювати транзакції. З іншого боку виникає ще більше запитань.

Додатковий пристрій — це завжди додаткові ризики. Як буде передаватися інформація між гаманцем та картою? Чи можна її, інформацію, перехопити? Наскільки легко зловмисникам розблокувати цю карту після викрадення? Є й інші питання.

Ledger ніби старається полегшити взаємодію з блокчейном та підвищити безпеку. З іншого ж боку — намагається придумати нове колесо. Особисто в мене виникають серйозні сумніви щодо використання цієї купи девайсів. Можливо, що для зберігання невеликих сум і здійснення платежів в біткоїнах такий Ledger і згодиться. Хоча для цього можна використати будь-який перевірений мобільний гаманець, наприклад, MUUN чи BlueWallet. А ось для довгострокового зберігання Біткоїна краще пошукати надійніший апаратний гаманець, або ж створити гаманець в офлайні з допомогою Electrum, Armory, Bitcoin Core...

Гаманці Біткоїн дуже різні й сьогодні вже не можна сказати, що один кращий, ніж інший. Саме тому я вже, на щастя, переріс той період, коли міг би комусь щось порадити. Гаманці Біткоїн призначені для різних цілей. Хтось хоче створити сховище ончейн й дочекатися підвищення ціни Біткоїна. Для іншого актуально використання мобільного гаманця, призначеного для щоденних витрат. І навіть у цих двох перерахованих варіантах є над чим помислити, бо гаманці різні. В деяких випадках я користуюся навіть централізованими гаманцями з прив'язкою електронної пошти. Чому я так роблю? Бо це зручно, швидко, а ще на цьому гаманці знаходяться сати, котрі не шкода втратити.

Якщо ви тільки починаєте обирати перший гаманець для Біткоїна, то я б порадив не економити час на вивченні інформації. Надалі вона стане в пригоді та забезпечить вашому майбутньому гаманцю відповідний рівень безпеки. Уточню: відповідний до ваших знань. Ну й нагадаю, що для створення сховища Біткоїна варто відмовитися від кастодіальних сервісів. Нічого не міняється в блокчейні: ваші ключі — ваші монети.

An additional device always means additional risks. How will information be transmitted between the wallet and the card? Can it be intercepted? How easy is it for attackers to unlock this card after theft? There are other questions.

Ledger seems to be trying to make interaction with the blockchain easier and increase security. On the other hand, it is trying to invent a new wheel. Personally, I have serious doubts about the use of this bunch of devices. It is possible that such a Ledger will be suitable for storing small amounts and making payments in bitcoins. Although for this you can use any proven mobile wallet, for example, MUUN or BlueWallet. But for long-term storage of Bitcoin it is better to look for a more reliable hardware wallet, or create an offline wallet using Electrum, Armory, Bitcoin Core...

Bitcoin wallets are very different and today it is no longer possible to say that one is better than the other. That is why, fortunately, I have already outgrown the period when I could advise someone. Bitcoin wallets are intended for different purposes. Someone wants to create an on-chain storage and wait for the Bitcoin price to increase. For another, using a mobile wallet intended for daily expenses is relevant. And even in these two listed options there is something to think about, because the wallets are different. In some cases, I even use centralized wallets with an email address. Why do I do this? Because it is convenient, fast, and this wallet also contains sati that is not a pity to lose.

If you are just starting to choose your first Bitcoin wallet, I would advise you not to waste time studying the information. It will come in handy in the future and will provide your future wallet with the appropriate level of security. Let me clarify: appropriate to your knowledge. And let me remind you that to create a Bitcoin storage, you should abandon custodial services. Nothing changes in the blockchain: your keys are your coins.
