XXX LAT PRL

What's up plebs?!

Back with another piece from a collection. It's something I recently got and was also the answer to my quiz from last week.

And it also happens to be my first silver coin from Poland.

Let's check it out:

So, this is a commemorative coin minted in 1974 for the 30th Anniversary of People's Republic of Poland. Back then the country was still under mother Russia and it wasn't until sometime in 1990 that it started to transition in a more... democratic country.

The peculiar shape on the front is essentially the map of Poland.

As for the text it's latin for 30 years of the Polish People's Republic.

  • XXX LAT: Roman numerals for 30 years.
  • PRL: Stands for "Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa," or "Polish People's Republic," which was the official name of Poland from 1952 to 1989, during the communist era.

The other side is pretty basic, featuring the denomination and the national coat of arms.

As for silver, we have 14.5 g of 0.625 purity. That's about 9.01 g of pure silver. Not great not terrible :D

Ok I think this concludes today's piece. It's not something really special to brag about. But I got it for spot price and it came with the plastic capsule, so I won't complain 😁

I was wondering what was XXX LAT PRL... Kinda strange the soviets wanted to use Latin numbers, pretty unexpected

Silver is silver, even if purity is a little low. It beats the hell out of having no silver at all! Interesting coin, I don't see much of the old European stuff much around here!
