To Triumph Through Peace And Understanding

What's up plebs?!

I got more shiny for your today! Actually this is an old piece, I think I got it over a year ago, but never got to featuring it.

And yes, it's yet another commemorative coin from Germany, lol. This one is a 5 mark coin minted in 1978 in commemoration of an old fat dude called Gustav Streseman

His name did ring a bell to me but I couldn't pinpoint exactly what he was known for, at least not before googling him up.

Tldr, he was a prominent German politician and statesman that played an important role in Germany's recovery and international relations during the Weimar Republic. He served as Chancellor briefly in 1923 and then as Foreign Minister until his death in 1929. Today he is best known for his efforts to stabilize Germany’s economy and secure its place in the global community after World War I. Due to this and other efforts he was nominated and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1926 for these efforts. Here's a link to Wikipedia if you'd like to read more on him.

All in all, a good chap.

Ok, now that we know a bit about him let's flip the coin

As always, a unique variation of the imperial eagle the angry chicken. You know Germans. They like their chickens 🙃🐔

And as always, we get an engraved edge

It reads

DURCH FRIEDEN UND VERSTÄNDIGUNG SIEGEN

For

To triumph through peace and understanding

I don't think it's a direct quote from him, but it does capture the essence of his diplomacy, as he believed in achieving Germany’s goals through peaceful means rather than conflict.

When it comes to silver we have the typical recipe. 11.2 g of 0.625 purity, giving us about 6.9 grams of silver

Ok, I think this sums up nicely today's coin and it's historical roots! Nothing special about it, just more cheap silver from Germany 😀

Ok, I will leave you now with some more shots I took

Your German history is better than mine! Sounds like he really tried to help Germany out after the war. It's too bad old Adolph came along not too long afterwards to mess things up all over again...

We need more peaceful politicians. I don't think war ends well for anyone outside the military industrial complex.
