It's been a while since I wanted to start metal detecting as a hobby so today I decided to buy my first metal detector.

I figured to start with something cheap, to test the waters and if I really enjoy the sport I'll probably pick something more expensive.

After reading some reviews here and there I figured to go for the Garret ace 150, a relatively cheap metal detector for beginners at 180$. But since I am a cheap fuck, after some digging I managed to score a second hand piece with a low mileage at 1/3 of the price. The machine is pretty much unused, literally without a single scratch on it.

I spend the afternoon watching the instructional DVD and getting the hand of it, turns out it's a pretty simple and basic machine.

I'll go for my first treasure hunt in a couple days and share my findings here...although I don't expect to find much, other than rusted nails and beer caps. 😂

Beautiful toy. I once borrowed it and searched a harvested field, approx. 50x100 m2. I found two horseshoes, unidentifiable pieces of metal, a few buttons, lots of nails and screws, beer caps, and one copper coin from the 1800s, completely corroded.

I was lucky. There was some fighting in the area during World War II. In theory, I could also find an unexploded grenade or mine. That probably can't happen to you.

You got the geographical advantage having plenty of lost metal goods lost over various conflicts over the 5 thousand+ years from real estate claims.
I have a Garret 400i and I discovered how advanced that the ancient aboriginals of the West Coast had long developed the aluminum lawn chair, house keys and beer stubblies way before the Spanish claimed this place for Spain.

I saw someone with one at the beach last year, I made a joke with the Betty that we should follow him around the whole day and when he leaves we knock him out and grab this gold 😂😂😂😂✊🏻
