Helmut Schmidt Gold Coin (2018, Cook Islands)
What's up plebs?
I am back with a new coin that I just got delivered... But unlike the usual stuff I show you, this one is made of gold 🪙
After a bit of bargaining, I managed to get it for spot price which is always very nice. I guess my seller let it slide since I am a good customer and he wants me happy and returning :)
Oh, and it's small. Really, really small. Just 0.5 g heavy 😂 At least it comes sealed in a nice card like case, which I guess makes it perfect for a pocket piece!

As you can see the card also has a quick summary of all the info you need to know about the coin. This one has a nominal value of 5 USD, is issued by Cook islands with a mintage of 5000 pieces. All the text is in German and I am too lazy to put it into google, but my guess from the obverse is that the coin is dedicated to Helmut Heinrich Waldemar Schmidt
Helmut Heinrich Waldemar Schmidt (German pronunciation: [ˈhɛlmuːt ˈʃmɪt] ⓘ; 23 December 1918 – 10 November 2015) was a German politician and member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), who served as the chancellor of West Germany from 1974 to 1982. source
As I said, the coin is really really small, the photos just make it appear larger then real life. Small and cute!
It's just so hard to imagine that this small piece of metal has a melting value of about 35$!

My seller has a few more such cards for sale, for about 40$ a piece. I wasn't planning to get anymore but honestly I am in love with this coin in a card concept that I might change my mind! Who knows, I know I didn't regret getting this one, it's a great novelty piece and..it's gold :)
I also got another cool silver piece today, but I will leave that one for tomorrow's post!

Thats the best! Spot gold is awesome and small gold is my favorite way to stack! We all love big gold, but, in reality, most of us can't buy it, but we can buy carded 1g bars! At that price for half gram, I'd buy them all!
