1 g Of Gold VS 1 g in Gold Backs

This is a post I wanted to do for a while now, showing the difference behind 1 g of pure gold vs 1 g of gold in the form of gold backs. After doing some quick math, 1 g is about 32 in the GoldBack denomination :D

So, let's first start with the one gram gold bar. It's just so tiny 🫣

Reminder, today's melting value per g of gold is $93.75! Yes, gold is that expensive 😅

And now the goldbar vs 1 g of gold in the form of gold backs:

1000006802.jpg

1000006803.jpg

1000006805.jpg

1000006804.jpg

As you can see I used some higher denomination GBs.

If I had used the basic unit of "1" the goldback stack would have been even more impressive, as it would be a total of 32 gb notes 😁

So, whixh do you prefer? The pure gold or the goldbacks?

I think we can all agree goldbacks are more fun. Sure, they come for a much higher premium compared to pure gold but generally it's a premium that carries on if you decide to sell em. And there is even an on growing list of shops (in the US) accepting them as tender so imo does it really matter?

No idea what gold backs are? Well the official website just got a revamp so feel free to check it out! It has all the info you need:

Ok friends, this is it for today! See you soon with more shiny stuff :D

The goldbacks look so cool! But pure gold has it's own shine too!

It's tough to choose between them, but I think I would utlimately go for the goldbacks. !BBH

It looks like the Goldbacks would cost me $5800 an ounce which is kind of annoying.
But they are pretty cool so I was thinking about buying the smaller denominations as a gift. Although trying to justify a flat x2.5 cost even for higher denominations where the press and print costs the same as lower denominations seems like an exploitative business model.

Which site did you look? I rarely have seen them for 2.5 x?

Defythegrid often has the best price for em, which is around a 2x. I know, still a lot but they are easy to resell and some businesses even have special discounts when you pay in GB !

it was just the first one I checked on a google search
Alpine Gold exchange

clearly you don't buy these things just for the gold you buy them because they are cool and people will way the same premium when you go to sell them (unless they get damaged)

are these things like laminated or anything?
when you pick a bigger note up is it obvious to the touch that it's thicker?

I think the company also accepts them and returns roughly the same amount of usd. There are also gb ATM and a whole network of other stuff, but yeah it's mostly the cool factor :D

Yes they are laminated in some short of polymere, but you don't feel much difference in thickness at least up to the "10", which is the biggest denomination I happen to own. They have a "good" feeling in the hand btw.

There's also the 25, 50 and most recently the 100 gb, I don't yet have any of those so I can't comment 😅

omfg the chart I was looking at was measuring gold in GBP instead of USD
$2200 my ass
Get out of here Great Britain with your dumb Pound.
Gold at ~$3k is pretty wild.

Pure gold for the win , total shit post should have provided the average price per 1 gram bar(you had melt value) and then the price for 32 GB's.
Just because there is plenty of people that will pay the premium it's not the same liquidity as regular bullion, they are beautiful and do contain gold but it is getting more into collector territory and I'm a bullion boy !PIMP !BBH !DOOK

I'm not sure. Pure gold is fantastic, but those Gold Backs are so pretty they tempt me.

Well, that's a pretty neat comparison! It's surprising how tiny a 1g gold bar looks when you put it next to a stack of goldbacks! It's pretty interesting to think about how goldbacks could actually be used in some stores. It adds a twist and makes the whole concept more practical, giving them a nice advantage compared to just having pure gold. Yeah, they can be pricey, but it looks like the trade-off is really worth it.

it is like asking which one you would date? Angelina Jolie or Scarlett Johansson hehehe
Well if you see purely as an investment you should try to get gold bars of course, but not all of them! If you get a 1g gold without assay it will be cheaper in the market compared to a 1g valcambi in the assay like you have. But in the melting time it has the same price!

So for investment I need to check their bank accounts first ! lol
But for taste of just dating it depends , right now I would say whatever LOL

The goldbacks are cool to see and are pretty, but I prefer a pure gold bar, that's accepted everywhere, so shiny and yellow

First of all, thanks for the website link I was going to Google more on it. Goldbacks actually look way more cool than the tiny gold bar. I think this feels more like real money you can actually use instead of the metal. They would say gold is gold but I prefer this one

I would prefer the gold if I wanted to maintain something of value. The goldbacks are nice if you don't want to hold too much of them because of how nice they look.

I always love gold bars, even better than the Goldbacks. I would go with the bar personally, although I do love the art work in the Goldbacks!
