What's up friends?!

Yesterday I came across one of the most exciting critters I have ever seen out in the "wild".

A male European rhinoceros beetle (Oryctes nasicornis)!

This is by far the biggest beetle I have ever seen, excluding the ones in zoos and stuff, and was also my first time encountering the species.

This is one of the largest beetle species occurring in Europe, reaching lengths of almost 5 cm.

Other than their bulky appearance, males are also really cool due to the long curved horn on their head.

Check it out:

Pretty bad ass right?

Unfortunately, this little fella was dead when I encountered him šŸ˜…

Maybe it was his time to go, maybe he died from disease or whatever. Probably the latter since these guys are supposed to live till the end of summer

Anyways, a really cool find!

Normally I would let the fella go but since he was already dead I decided to keep him in a glass jar šŸ«™

If you know of any tips on how to preserve him please let me know šŸ˜…šŸ˜‚

Ok, I guess this is it for today.

See you soon with more creepy critters šŸ˜‚

You need to put the jar the para-dichlorobenzene in case you don't know

Pretty cool! We don't have any quite like that over here in the US. Very nice find and you got to keep it too since it was already dead!

Where's the downvore drama? I don't get it šŸ˜‚

I saw a post by tabeta about his downvotes and it listed people who he says self-upvote but don't get downvoted. He was downvoted by someone who said the reason was his selfvoting. People took issue with him listing other accounts and possibly bringing them into the drama.

I’ll give you this one, it is really cool looking and I hate bugs.

That’s a seriously impressive beetle. The horn gives it a prehistoric look, like something from a different era. I barely pay enough attention so it's even hard to believe bugs like that are just out there.

We have those in our country. Their pretty strong and can bore holes in trees.

It does look amazing, but its too bad that it was already dead by the time you found it.

Aren't these the beetles you posted last that are nail clippers.

A rhinoceros beetle fossil would be nice!!

Dunno how to preserve it though, maybe Ice?

It's sad to see it dead. You usually share animals on Hive that I haven't seen before. This is the first time I've seen an animal here that I've seen before lol. It's sad that it's dead. Why don't you throw it away? šŸ˜‚What's the point of keeping it in a jar? Is it like a collection lol?

Poor little fella, bad it was a 'gone too soon'. That huge horn shows it is indeed a fighter. Thanks for another discovery
