πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺ 150 years of independence of Belgium πŸ‡§πŸ‡ͺ

What's up plebs?!

Today I want to show off yet another coin from my collection, this is one of the latest additions and imo pretty cool:

And the other side

As you can see from the pics above, this is a 500 Francs coin from Belgium. It was minted in 1980 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Independence of the country.

As you have probably guessed, the five fellas depicted on the obverse are the 5 kings of the country.

As for the reverse, a map of the country denomination and in Latin "150 years of independence of Belgium".

A beautiful and minimalistic coin just as I like them :D

At 25 g it's a relatively chunky boy although purity wise it could do better. Just 0.510. The rest is mostly copper and a bit of nickel. It's a bit disappointing for such a nice piece and they could have used some more silver.

The edge is also clean, another missed opportunity to make this coin a bit better.

The finish could also have been a bit better, it's too mirrorish for my taste but maybe that's just me.

By the way, if you follow my posts than it might remind you of something.

It's a bit similar with the 1963 30 dracmai coins I have shared a few times in the past, although a bit less epic design wise if you ask me:

All in all, a beautiful coin if you ask me. In my opinion they should have put some more effort (and silver!) and it would have been just perfect!

Ok frens, this is it for today!

See you soon with more shiny πŸ˜„

Dope ass coin. I like how simple it looks with the kings and the map. Too bad it’s not more silver, but still cool to have anyways. The 1963 drachma coin you mentioned is also really nice. I'm learning new shit everyday because of you Mr TrumpMan πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯😏

It's French.

Only 0.510? 1980 silver was close to $21USD/oz. That was a pretty good price then so I believe the mint was being a bit cheap on the silver they put into the coin. Perhaps they cut back on the design too. It could be better as you inferred yet Belgium was one of the richer countries.

They wouldn't be rich if they weren't cheap πŸ™ƒπŸ˜‚

Nice coin. It's too bad about the silver content in the coin.
