How to make a plastic storage box

avatar

In commemoration of World Environment Day, I decided to upcycle a plastic bottle into a Storage box.

The environment as we know it has suffered a lot of pollution. One of the major pollutants of the environment is plastic.

Our lands and oceans have been polluted with so much plastic. The terrible thing is that these plastics are not biodegradable, so they just keep accumulating as people discard them, causing more and more pollution to the environment.

There have been a lot of advocacy about prioritizing the three Rs; Reuse, Reduce and Recycling. There is also upcycling. As an alternative to discarding plastics in an improper manner, upcycling these plastics have turned out to be a great way of protecting the environment.

Let's get into the process.

Materials

  • Two Plastic bottles
  • A pair of Scissors
  • Zip
  • Gum

Steps

Step 1

I cut both plastic bottles into two. I discarded the upper part of the bottles, leaving the bottom part, which I'll use.

Step 2

I applied gum to the outer edge of the top part of one of the cut plastic bottles.

I also applied gum to the inner part of the zip. Then I used one part of the zip to wrap round the edge of the bottle.

Step 3

I applied gum to the other plastic bottle I cut out, and wrapped the free part of the zip round it in a manner that the part where the zip ends (the fixed part) serves as an anchor for both plastics. This way the box opens and closes like it has a hinge.

That's it! The storage box is ready. I can zip it open to put pens, pencils and any other stuff I may want to put there, and then zip it back.

One great thing about this project that it is very simple and easy to make. It does not require much materials. Also, with this box, you no longer have to keep some of your things lying around.

All you have to do is put them in the box and that's it. Anytime you need it, you know where it is and you can easily access it. This way, the immediate surrounding would be organized, and people won't have to stress themselves looking for things

I hope that with a simple project like this, more persons will be motivated to try out other uses for plastics instead of just discarding them. Plastics can be used to make a lot of cool things. That way, we are better protecting our beautiful environment, and the earth at large.

Harm to the environment will eventually result to harm to us. Keeping our environment in the best shape possible is of utmost importance.

Thanks for reading. I hope you like what I made.

That is an excellent and creative idea. You have recycled these materials, giving them a use that I really liked, it could be used to store other things and even modify the design according to the needs. It has been a simple but quite practical job. Congratulations, thanks for sharing. Greetings.
