Evolution of dreams

One thing constant in life is change. One moment, we want one thing, another moment, we want something else, and that’s normal. As human, we evolve. Our priorities changes as we get more exposed. The more we go through life, the more we adapt and change to live a better life.

I wanted to be an engineer as a kid. It was born out of the desire to build cool stuff. I was fascinated by how machines and electronic devices worked and I wanted to be able to build some of my own. It shaped my choices then and I picked a lot of interest in engineering related things. Tv shows back then also inspired this childhood dream of mine. As much as I was fascinated by machines and how they worked, I also wanted to build machines that could help people and make life easier.

However, as time went on, and as I grew older, what I wanted changed. I found interest in healthcare. I related to healthcare more, and as much as I liked engineering, I connected more with healthcare. My focus shifted to healthcare and that was eventually the career path I chose. One particular event that caused this change was when I visited someone at the hospital one day, and I saw how the professionals worked hard to ensure they give the best care to their patient and make them feel better.

I am satisfied and happy with the career path I chose. It wasn’t an easy process going through school, and studying hard to become a healthcare professional, but it was worth it.

Sometimes I wonder what life would be like if I went ahead to continue with engineering. Maybe I can still take a career path in Engineering. It would be nice having two separate degrees. Well, that’s something for future consideration.
I have seen people who have multiple degrees. I know some people who have degrees both in law and medicine. I admire people like that because it is not an easy achievement.

One thing my childhood dream and choice of career path has taught me about myself is my desire to help people, either directly or indirectly. It’s at the epicenter of it all. It is really important for children to have dreams because it gives them a sense of purpose. They will have something to structure their lives after. Even if they end up not achieving that dream, it would have taught them a lot and the experience they gathered can be used for something even better for them.

Change is one thing that is inarguably constant, with every passing minute our wants and needs as humans changes.

Change is the only constant thing we experience in life, and it changes our lives, dreams, careers, etc
The important thing is having a purpose in line with the dream career because it will help us achieve our goals. Great that you achieved your goal not in engineering anymore but in medical field, your purpose didn't change regardless....

Health profession is a good one and it’s good you could find your niche aside the engineering. The most important thing is being satisfied in what you find yourself doing.
