Africans And Gender DIscrimination
Designed on canva
Hi everyone, welcome to my blog and another edition of the hive learners prompt, and for this edition, I will be writing about gender discrimination, also going to take my instances from our African culture, especially Nigeria, being a Nigerian, you have a lot to say on gender criticism or discrimination
In Africa, there are a lot of things that happen especially when it is related to one's gender, I remember one time an Igbo man fought with his wife just because she gave birth to another female child because they already had four female before, sometimes I wonder if they reason that it is not the woman that makes the choice of the gender she gives birth to.
It is common in Africa that they discriminate female genders like a lot, here women as seen as being low in the sense that, a woman's job is supposed to be in the kitchen, this was something I usually heard since I was little, and I don't know ow why women succumb to it. It is said that a woman shouldn't work, her job is to clean, cook, wash, etc, who said a man or husband cant also do this, especially when married? , this was one issue in my home a few years back, my husband usually said it was a woman's duty to do all this, okay yes true, but why must it be so, he always said he saw how his own parents did to each other, his mother practically did everything chores at home and wasn't allow to go look for a job except she was to start up her own business like this is like the norm in most African homes, especially Nigerian.
Women are not meant to go against what their husbands say regardless of what their own opinion might be, they are meant to follow and not give orders, some might give bible references that a woman ought to be submissive to her husband, yes this is true but that doesn't mean a woman should be subjected a lifetime of slavering for the family, cause that is what I see it as slavery. there should be helping hands from the partner.
In a general view on this topic, I believe women should be allowed to have a say in their homes and even workplace, I have seen a woman being talked down to at her workplace just because she was a woman, she was denied a position because she refused to accept the rules that they gave, since it wasn't benefiting her as a woman in any way, she was entitled for that position since she has worked with them for a long time, she was denied that right because another person a man beat her to the position.
And coupled that value male children, I see no reason why this is still in existence even in this twenty first century, I had thought it would be something would be eradicated from life. Every child should be seen as equal and I asked an igbo man what he though a male child was more valuable, his only response was that the boy will carry his name while a female will go to her husband's house and bear her husband's name, while the explanation sounds like a cock and bull story to me, I just left him to his belief, cause no matter how I tried to talk him out of that thinking he still would have his mind on his own believe.

People that still does this needs plenty orientation, the two gender are God's gift and who says a man will do better than a woman in life.
i wonder where they get their thinking from, now days women do well in the country, so its somehow hearing that
In this current world everyone is equal many women are doing jobs in outside also. It's true that because of women many responsibility comes automatically to them but it doesn't mean they need to in kitchen all the time.
In case of giving birth of female baby mother is not responsible for it. Scientifically father is responsible for giving birth of a male or female baby.
Yes this is so true, they don't know this truth.
