Behind the scrubs

It's been a while since I last shared anything here, and during that time, so much has been happening behind the scenes. Life has taken me on a new journey, one filled with lessons, challenges, and countless moments of growth. And in the course of learning these lessons, I have cried, laughed, prayed and have struggled through different emotional turmoils. After stepping back for a while, I’m finally ready to let you in on this chapter of my life. I’m walking the path of a student nurse, and through it, I’ve come to see life, health, and humanity in a whole new light. Today, I’m back to share pieces of that journey with you.

Being a student nurse has not been easy like I earlier mentioned and living the life has become harder especially when clinicals started. I'm currently doing my third clinical posting and the university health centre hasn't had many patients since I started. Just routine injections, observations here and there but no serious cases where we students can learn from.

I was on night shift recently so let me share my little experience with you guys.
On arrival, the nurses on the afternoon shift handed over to us and I talked for a while with my coursemates and even took some pictures for memories. I've been so stressed and so, they don't look so great but oh well…

The night started with us balancing the drugs and injections in the injection room. Also balancing other equipment in the hospital. This is crucial because documentation is key in nursing.

After which, I went to the nurses room to have dinner. I was assigned to OPD ( out patient department) where I was to check the vitals of patients that come into the hospital but like I said, there were barely any patients.

So later into the night, the head nurse gathered us student nurses and we played monopoly. After all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Playing monopoly was also a way for us to bond and I got to know more about most of my coursemates. It was my first time playing the game and no one mentioned it'll take hours. I mean, we spent four hours playing the game. I was not the winner, but I was in the top three so I was happy since it was my first time playing the game.

We ended the game around 2am and since there were still no patients, we decided to retire for the night. As we'll say in my culture “body no be firewood”. My coursemates retired too but the bussing sound of mosquitoes kept on disturbing and so my sleep was short-lived.

I slept for barely an hour and was up throughout. Decided to take pictures of various departments in the health centre like the injection room, the male and female ward, and others. There was really not much to show since the health centre is a really small one.

Soon enough it was morning and I took pictures also of the beautiful trees. They looked too peaceful. I was drained because I did not have enough rest and I was waiting for the morning shift to fake over. All in all, nursing profession can be interesting but at the same time stressful
