Best Friend And I..
I've lost count of how many of my childhood stories have been written about and still yet smile when I remember moments with the only best friend have ever had. Don't think I've ever mentioned it but she was my look-alike, equally age mates with a difference of three weeks, mind you, same height.. almost same stature but with everything vibe.
My childhood was strictly based on church, school, and home which brought the formulation of a triangle setting, and the same was hers too only with the exception of her mum taking her moms shop that was in the market, so she goes there after school hours. The good thing was my best friend and I attended both the same school and fellowship at same church so we saw almost everyday.
We were also very active in church choir then, oh we were overly smart and agile, and because of that we got the name “know know” lol and also got a stage name called “Jesus baby”.
“She’s the one that stood directly at my right hand side.”
School equally was no different, because it all felt like we dominated everywhere we entered, along side we created a crew out of the children church too and a gent in school lol.. I remember in my primary school days, at that time our classes were split into two because of the population of the pupils. While I was in class A.. ( that is primary 1A, she was always in B. I suppose that was the doing of our teachers because having two of us in one class could have been hectic lol
I agree, I was more of trouble as a child ( not in the most difficult way though) and even with the splitting, my best friend and I each where in charge of our various classes, more like the prefect for a long time.
Aside from my elder brother, my childhood best friend was one person I would never forget for life, she was the first sister I ever had even though am just getting that fact now.
However, life happened and we drifted apart gradually, it began the very moment we entered junior secondary school which led me to a boarding school, and by the time I got back for the holidays, she felt different from who I knew, and shortly after she too became a border of a different school and the final separation came when our parents had a clash and the rest became history.
Sometimes I wonder if she taught me the same way I do her because, for me, childhood wouldn't have been so much fun and memorable if she wasn't present, at least that is what it is and just maybe could be the reason why I couldn't get a best friend after her. In a way, I hope our paths cross again someday and wish it be for good and not the opposite of life.
