Weekend Engagement Week #261: ¿Unfulfilled dream?
A necessary introduction
I have always been a sports lover, but, despite having practiced basketball, athletics, volleyball or chess, I knew I was not talented enough to become a professional athlete.
Another element, which perhaps influenced the above was that my parents were high performance athletes and my mother insisted that I not go to a sports school and focus on other disciplines because of the great effort that must be made in physical activity and, at the time, it was not very well remunerated.
Anyway, my passion for sports continued to grow and my biggest dream was to become a journalist, specializing in sports.
I thought that, with this career, I would be able to cover major sporting events and meet great sports stars who were my idols all my life.
In this weekly initiative proposed by @galenkp I want to share where I imagine I would be if I had followed my dreams.
Where would I be if I had followed my dreams?
If I had followed my dreams, maybe I would be at the multinational sports network ESPN. Maybe, my job would be at CNN or Marca, but, always linked to sports.
If I had fought to follow my dreams, I would have been covering some of the Olympic Games that captivated me so much, such as Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 or London 2012.
I imagine myself at the athletics world championships enjoying my work and the exploits of the great stars of the sport.
Perhaps I would have been at the World Cup in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 or Qatar 2022.
But what I would have enjoyed most was to have met the great stars of the world of sport and to be able to interview them, to know the ins and outs of their preparations and their sporting life.
Why couldn't I make my dreams come true?
Many will wonder why I did not follow my dreams and the answer is simple. At an important time in my life, when I had to make such a decision I had to choose between my dream or helping my mother who had been left alone, with my two younger sisters and two younger brothers who had to depend on my mom's salary which was barely enough and from which I had to start earning for the family's sustenance.
Hive and the fulfillment of a dream
Being in #hive has allowed me, in part, to fulfill that dream of making known my criteria, points of view and analysis of the main sporting events taking place in Cuba and in the world. It is true that I am not on the field of play or that I cannot interview, live and direct, the protagonists of the sporting feats. But @hive has given me the opportunity to publish sporting events in which I have participated and, in addition, has become an accomplice and ally of this dream of sports journalist that I always had as a life project.
Note: I have used the translator DeepL Translate.
The photos used are my own, taken with my Samsung J2 phone*.
Muted because you used non-english text in your title. You can edit and let me know and I'll then unmute it. Or leave it and the post will remain muted.
Good evening @galenkp
It is now that I can see the message because we were 9 hours without power and connection.
Apparently, when I put the text to translate I did not put the title or did not translate what was in parentheses.
I try my best not to break the rules, but, something always happens to me. I must be more careful and check many times before publishing.
Have a nice weekend.
Cheers and best regards.
All fixed. No worries.
Thanks you very much.
Congratulations!
