Los protagonistas

Este ha sido uno de los torneos nacionales de ajedrez en los que han faltado más jugadores de alto rango, al menos, de cuantos he seguido a lo largo de mi vida y han sido unos cuantos. Para tener una idea, tres de los grandes maestros que estuvieron en la última olimpiada mundial de ajedrez no estuvieron presentes y, entre ellos, el más renombrado fue Luis Ernesto Quesada, quien hasta ese momento ostentaba el título de campeón nacional.

A pesar de lo anterior, el autor considera que no se le debe restar méritos a un campeonato que volvió a demostrar la gran cantidad de talento que hay en el país, en el llamado juego ciencia, en el que destacaron una gran cantidad de ajedrecistas jóvenes.

A la definición por el título nacional llegaron dos jugadores que no estaban en los cálculos de los especialistas para alcanzar la corona nacional. De una parte, estuvo el MI Jorge Roberto Elías y de la otra el GM Dylan Berdayes Ason. Ambos llegaron empatados con 7 puntos, de 10 posibles y, como se ha hecho habitual para definir los campeonatos se acudió al sistema de desempate por partidas rápidas en la que los jugadores tienen 15 minutos por partido más 10 segundo de incremento, luego de cada jugada.

Fue un duelo bien peleado y terminó con un resultado inesperado porque Luis Manuel, venció por 2 puntos a 0 a Dylan Berdayes, para coronarse como el nuevo campeón nacional de Cuba.

Fue un torneo que no tuvo toda la participación que debía, pero contó con la participación de jóvenes que vienen buscando el protagonismo que merecen.

En cuanto a los resultados generales, sigo sin entender cómo es posible que los mejores jugadores del país no hayan alcanzado el mejor resultado en el torneo nacional.

Es impensable, al menos para quien escribe que, Carlos Daniel albornoz no haya logrado ganar un torneo en el que era el claro favorito demostrado en torneos precedentes.
