Today I will write about sub tribe, bukusu. Please kindly vote for me!

Kenya has 42 tribes.

Bukusu is a sub-tribe of the Luhya tribe.

Facts about Bukusu sub-tribe:

1 . Did you know that no homestead must lack chickens to be considered a home? Chickens are essential and symbolize prosperity; without them, it’s not a home.

2 . No one is circumcised on odd years; circumcision only happens during even years. This marks the transition from boyhood to manhood, with music, dancing, and celebrations.

3 . When a man passes off, his wife is inherited by his younger brother, not an older one.

4 . A widow must undergo a cleansing ritual involving someone outside the clan before being inherited by her brother-in-law. This practice ensures spiritual and social acceptance for the widow.

5 . It’s not required to deliver a message to visitors before they sit down; they must first be offered tea or at least water as part of hospitality customs.

6 . Greeting without a handshake is not considered a proper greeting. However, sons do not handshake their mothers-in-law, and daughters do not handshake their fathers-in-law. When addressed by their fathers-in-law, daughters-in-law must look down and keep their hands behind their backs as a sign of respect.

7 . A small child is required to greet elders first when they meet; elders do not initiate greetings with children.

8 . Local brew must be available after the dead on the anniversary. If it’s Christian faith, the family must bring the church to pray for the deceased.

9 . Every homestead must engage in farming; if not, you are fined and must pay at the clan chairman’s office. Farming is central to Bukusu life, with crops such as maize, millet, sorghum, and vegetables grown for food and ceremonies.
