TAGAL LUANTI RIVER FISH SPA

Ranau was one of the popular tourist destinations, making this small city very busy every time it was on holiday. It's not just popular for its nature because it's located strategically near the highest mountain in Malaysia, Kinabalu Mountain, but it's also the perfect place to escape from your daily busy life.

The food is awesome. If you remember, I have posted about the popular wild boar that was smoking, or what we called the Sinalau Bakas in my previous post. The culture was beautiful because many people in that area spoke fluently in the local language and, of course, still practiced the old culture, although some of it was forgotten, especially by the new generation.

Today I want to share with you one of the interesting places that you should visit when visiting my place. It was the popular fish spa that was located 2 hours drive from Kota Kinabalu (if the traffic was not jammed). Usually, it takes more than 3 hours to drive when traffic is jammed, especially during public holidays.

Tagal in our language means prohibition, specifically that you are not allowed to fish or catch any fish from a river. Some places, like the Luanti River, practice tagal. The main objective of Tagal is to give time to the fish growing. The unique thing about Luanti River was that the fish were very tame, and you could play with them. They feel so safe because humans didn't catch them.

People come there to enjoy playing with the fish and, at the same time, getting spa and massages from them.

Of course, you need to pay for entrance to pay the locals for the maintenance of this place. They also build some buildings for visitor convenience, like toilets, restaurants, and parking lots.
