Leadership Is About Action, Not Just Words
Leadership isn't just about talking; it's about actions at work. It's sad to see many people, especially young ones, avoiding responsibilities. They don't want to take on tasks or help others, yet they still want to be called leaders or live like one. They forget that being a leader comes with many duties and tasks that need to be done. They think leadership is about giving orders and looking down on others, but it's not. It is more than that. A leader is meant to live by example. He should show a legacy he won't his followers to emulate and embrace.
So as a leader, If you keep running away from challenges instead of proving yourself as a leader, don't be surprised when opportunities start going to those who are hardworking and responsible.
Sometimes, people give us tasks to see how dependable we are. If we fail, they won't consider us true leaders. Humans tend to trust people who show results more than someone who talks and talks without showing forth evidence to back up his claims.
Lead by example
I had a friend in secondary school who was always willing to help with any task. He is ever ready to engage and get the task done even when not asked to. Our teachers loved him because he was reliable and ready to help. He was often asked to run errands and help in the teachers' offices. I once asked him why he was always chosen, and he said it was because they trusted him. Inspired by him, I tried to help others more too. He was eager to grow and learn, even when I suggested he take a break because I realised it might affect his studies.
His hard work paid off. He became skilled in many things and received many recommendations. He was always called upon for various activities even after we left school.
One day, he had an accident on his way to school, which injured his leg. Many students, including me, stepped in to help him. When the teachers heard about the accident, they all went to the clinic to support him. The principal was initially angry, thinking the teachers had abandoned their duties, but she felt sorry when she learned about the accident.
The principal told my friend, "Tolu, can you see the reward of being a good person? Even teachers who never taught you came to support you. Keep up your good behaviour, and you'll see great rewards."
Why did I share this story? Because I learned a lot from him and this has helped me navigate through life and personal experience.
