Exploring A Castle Ruin With A Spectacular View
I have to admit, we didn't hike all the way up here. Instead, we decided to take a little train that took us around 300m uphill. Before we could climb that last part (yes we had to walk) we were greeted with a spectacular view of the Rhine river. We were blessed with a beautiful day and the view was simply amazing. The river was quite buys with many cargo ships passing by.
There were several platforms to enjoy the view from. One had a gothic looking pillar. I always wonder how people in the past got things like this up here. It certainly can't have been easy. Apparently donkeys were used in the past, as we could see several signs and statues dedicated to them.
An unexpected sight was that of a zeppelin. I once heard that there are less than 20 that roam the world... If so, we were quite lucky! It moved a lot faster than I had expected and at one point was quite close to the hill we were on. Their view must have been even more remarkable.
We finally climbed the last part by foot and reached the ruins. There isn't so much left, but it was clear that it was heavily fortified at one point. The tower had extremely thick walls and must have been a safe place - although I doubt that it was very comfortable. It also wasn't very large and not many people could have lived here. It certainly would have been challenging to get food and equipment up here during the time when it was lived in.
This concludes our little journey, hope you enjoyed it!

Even in ruins, the castle still held much of its magnificence of old. The giant gothic looking pillar does really stand out the most, looks completely independent and I imagine standing up there, one would be greeted with a 360° view of the whole surrounding areas! Beautiful day indeed, added much vibrancy to the images :)
