Blogging Now May Be More Rewarding

When price is down it's less motivating to post

But actually, it may be quite the opposite. The main reason here is that the reward pool of Hive is distributed to less daily bloggers. So in principle you should be getting greater pay outs. We can see that the amount of active Hive accounts has been in decline since the 2021 peak. This is mainly due to the price falling, i.e., it's "less sexy to post" since the rewards feel (and actually are) smaller. While it is true that the amount of HBD is much higher when Hive's price is also higher, the Hive rewards are actually much greater when Hive's price is low. The idea here is that should Hive's price rise again, the Hive rewards of a post could then be sold for more $ value. That is of course if Hive goes up again. Unfortunately, this hasn't been the case for a long time.

So with less active users, the share of the reward pool for Hive becomes bigger for bloggers. There hasn't really been a big change in activity for more than a year, so I would argue that this dynamic hasn't really been felt for some time. Yet, should Hive see another spike in the future, users should noticeably see their amount of Hive dropping from posts (and not just because of the higher price, but because the reward pool is split among more users). I guess $ attracts users and we can definitely expect a busier chain should price go up again.

Another argument for blogging now, is that Hive Power has been continually increasing over the years, essentially now being at an ATH (since the Hive Fork at least). With more HP around, there is a good chance that more users are actively curating and the chance therefore of receiving a vote or a higher vote amount is bigger (the caveat here is that users actually have to put their HP to use).

Conclusion

I guess it all comes down to future trends - should Hive make a come back, blogging and earning Hive could be a really good pay off (imagine making $1 now and being able to sell it for $10 in the future). In fact, when Hive's price is up, there is almost an incentive to sell Hive because the value of the payout could be much less in the future. Hive now being back at 10 cents is quite the surprise (at least for me); personally, I am betting on higher prices for the coming years again and that's probably the only thing we can really do if we want to remain hopeful.

I think this is happening already, I feel like Im getting more HP per post I publish than say 4 months ago, if the bear market hits its going to be crazy maybe how much HIVE on can accumulate, I got my eyes in 2029 see whats the price is in another four two five yeara, hope is higher though 😅✌️

2029 is so far away! But it's good to have long term goals 😊

yeah long four more years, Im already 3 years on Hive going into 4, the thing is that right now I dont see web2 users moving to web3 so that long gives probably enough time for something to happen, I really enjoy growing my account but I did purchase some Hive with cash so anyone else Im just giving it time to flourish 😅

Surely at this time the rewards are less but there is one great benefit that right now good Hive is being accumulated. When I convert 1 HBD, I get 8–9Hive which I think is a very good time for accumulation.

One more thing is that the post activity has decreased compared to 2021. This is a natural fact that where rewards are low people will not stay. But as soon as rewards start increasing then post activities will also increase. In short the users who are active right now are the real loyal users.

I see that now I get more HP and because of that I also started posting with 100% power up more frequently. It may not be much reward in $ value but for HP its really good. Do you expect more people to get active on blogging now ?

Normally it really takes a rising price for activity to increase. But a lot of people still don't know about Hive

The downvoters are driving people away and farming Hive hard at the same time 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

It's downhill all the way if nothing changes

That's banking on the assumption that HIVE will bounce back in the future. The thing is, you're not paid in HIVE, you're paid in HP and that takes a lot of time to powerdown, unless you're opting for the liquid rewards. The thing is, people who opted for liquid rewards are often branded as those with no long term plans for Hive. However, in reality, now that less people are posting, it's not the content creators who caused a sell pressure of HIVE. It's the DHF and those who earned from it without proper audit.

That's why I'm no longer incentivized to post. I'm always aiming for quality content and yet people are abusing Hive. Not everyone, but some are just extracting value so much more than others without giving back anything in return.

Good points, it will be even harder to distinguish real value/effort with AI now being so easily accessible.

I would argue however that the selling pressure from the DHF isn't really a big problem (although the funding of bad proposals is) since it is a small fraction of Hives trading volume. I think the major culprit here are the big whales on exchanges

Great post — this actually explains a lot! 😅
I’ve noticed lately that rewards seem way smaller for so many users, even ones who usually do really well. It was starting to feel like something had changed with the pool or voting patterns, but what you said makes sense — fewer active bloggers = bigger slice of Hive for those still posting.

It’s funny how it looks less rewarding when the price is down, but really it might be the best time to stack Hive Power quietly. Still, I totally get why it feels demotivating when the $ value drops.

Appreciate you breaking it down so clearly — this gives me a whole new perspective on posting during slow times.

However, I think what everyone should focus on is what we all get from each others actual content- the sharing, the stories, the travel, the adventures, the community and the financial rewards are just icing on the cake.

And if I could I would be posting all day every day and not just for the rewards, but so people can see the amazing places and wonderful people that I am meeting the the fantastic experiences that I am blesses to have.

I have so much content that I would have to take a year off to post it all- oh I have already taken a year off to post it all, but have barely blogged at all because I'm out doing it...thats why in my last post I was toying with the idea of livestreaming on 3speak...

I also think that if Hive was able to recover, the rewards from blogging would be very worth it

Great post, but with a lot of speculations..
One thing I know about crypto is that history doesn't tell lies, doesn't mean history will always repeat itself, but it's not gonna be much different with what we've known before.. however anyone who's patient enough to sow when other people are weary, almost always, there are benefits.

It reminds me of the time when HIVE was close to $1 and I was buying HIVE twice a month. Now that it is $0.10, I forgot the last time I bought HIVE.

Your post inspired me to make a chart.

Indeed it seems that when there are fewer active authors, those who remain earn more Hive per post. It might be worth looking at the daily median but that's a little bit more of a complex query.

I keep on posting regardless as it's fun. I'm stacking up more HP. I make more from curation than from posts these days, but that's fine.
