Making Cireng With Spicy Meatballs

Hello, Asean mates...

Since I didn't have much to do yesterday, I was looking for possible things to do to kill my boredom. Finally, it came to mind to make a snack with readily available ingredients.

CIRENG WITH SPICY MEATBALLS

The branding of spicy and very spicy food is on the rise. Not recently, but like since after covid. For some reason, many foods are branded with the words "SPICY" or "EXTRA SPICY" with a level of spiciness that sometimes makes no sense.

One of them is CIRENG. Cireng is processed wheat flour and sago flour that is seasoned and then fried. For the original variant, Cireng only tastes savory which is then dipped in a special sauce.
However, over time, innovation after innovation from creative traders emerged. There are many types of cireng such as cireng filled with spicy shredded chicken, cireng filled with beef fat, and cireng filled with spicy meatballs.

Since I still had some beef meatballs in the fridge, I decided to start slicing the meatballs thinly and sautéing them with spicy seasonings: red chili, shallots, garlic, candlenuts, a little coriander, and seasonings such as salt and pepper.

After the spicy meatballs for the filling were finished, I moved on to the dough for the cireng skin which consisted of a mixture of starch flour and wheat flour and poured boiling water little by little until the dough was smooth. Don't forget to add chopped garlic and salt in the batter to make it savory.

After the dough is smooth, then I flatten it with a rolling pin and mold it with the mold that has been provided. Add spicy meatballs as filling, then fry on low heat so as not to burn quickly.

Once the cakes are slightly dry, remove, drain, and the Spicy Baso Stuffed Cireng is ready to eat.

How about it. Very easy, isn't it? Anyone can try it at home. Good luck!

So, let's share what do you do when you're bored?

It looks like an empanada, is Cireng similar to an empanada? because empanada has similar ingredients to your Cireng that has meat, vegetables, and/or cheese.

Only similar in shape. whereas the Empanada is another version of Manado's typical Panada. I'm curious if Manado's special Panada is inspired by Empanada?
