Gado-Gado In Purwokerto

I decided to do so because I wanted to enjoy and get to know the atmosphere of this quiet little town. About five hundred meters into the street, I came across a street vendor selling food. There were mortars and pestles, vegetables, and rice cakes with crackers. I assumed they were selling gado-gado (Indonesian traditional salad). So I ordered one to eat on the spot. I ordered it medium spicy because it was still early.
Sure enough, the vendor ground the peanut sauce, which consisted of fried peanuts, brown sugar, chilies, and who knows what else. Then he asked if I wanted rice or rice cakes. I replied with rice cakes.

Soon, a portion of pecel (Indonesian traditional salad) or gado-gado (Indonesian traditional salad) was ready.
This serving contains sliced rice cakes, vegetables, peanuts, crackers in separate plastic bags, and, uniquely, pieces of boiled young papaya. This is a bit different from the usual. And it tastes really good, too.

All the vegetables and condiments are mixed together in a thick, delicious peanut sauce. You can see everything blending together and creating a delicious whole. It's very tasty. The combination of the savory peanuts, the sweetness of the palm sugar, and the spiciness of the chilies makes this peanut sauce a favorite among many people. Furthermore, peanut sauce is usually not too spicy, so many kids enjoy it.

For 15,000 rupiah per serving, I was full and ready to continue my journey to the inn. We had about another kilometer to walk. So, after filling my stomach, I'd burn it off again by walking. Wow, that was fun!
Thanks for reading, see you in the next one.

That sounds like such a lovely experience. Street food like that really captures the heart of a place, and your description made me crave gado-gado too. ^^
