Emily's Resolutions
In a not so large town, perfectly placed between mountains and rivers, there lived a very ambitious lady called Emily.
Emily was a very loving and caring lady, whose eyes always sparkled with love, and was in her mid twenties.
On a very normal day, Emily was always joyous, and mostly around children, teaching them nursery rhymes, but on this particular day, Emily was all moody, and alone, seated just in front of her house and staring into the thin air as if she had lost a fortune.
Well, later on, her closest friend, Paul walked in with a bottle of wine, and two cups... without even asking her, why she was all moody, squeezed one of the cups into her hand, and poured out some wine into it, and thereafter, sat beside her.
" Emily...Emily...Emily!" Paul voiced each word with an exponential Increase. "Yes? Sorry I was really deep in thought." Emily replied reluctantly. " Erm...so what seems to be the issue this time? '' Paul asked, eager to hear her response. "Well, in a few weeks from now, the year will be over, and the time has come once again to make new year resolutions." Emily said, still in a depressed voice.
"And what's wrong with that Emi?" Paul asked, even more confused than he was prior to hearing Emily. Emily responded almost immediately, " the thing is, I'm fond of always making new year resolutions, but I never meet up with any of them at the end of the year.".
"Well, I guess you should make 'not making a new year resolution' your new year resolution then...come on sip some wine." Paul said with an annoying smile on his face.
After some awkward minutes of silence, Emily seemed to have gotten something from the poorly cooked up sentence Paul made earlier. "Hmmm...what if I make 'trying to stop a bad habit' my resolution for this year, even though it's almost over?" Emily asked no one in particular, and with a warm smile evident on her face.
"And what is this bad habit of yours? Who knows, I might be able to help." Paul asked, now more interested.
She replied immediately, as if she already knew he was going to ask— "It's procrastination Paul...procrastination!". "Well in that case, you aren't alone in this...I procrastinate alot too...although I'm sure mine isn't as much as yours." Paul replied, responding as mischievous as ever.
Right away, the two friends discussed, and setted out plans on how to successfully overcome procrastination, just before the year ended.
The activities of the following weeks tempted Emily to procrastinate as usual, but with Paul who served as her checkmate, she was able to overcome procrastination.
While strolling down the street together on a Monday evening, Paul noticed Emily had a weird smile on throughout and was forced to stop the walk and ask, " come Emily you look like you are up to something...what's up with the unusually long smile?"
"Can't you see bit by bit we have been able to overcome our newly set resolution ( Procrastination)?" Emily responded. "Ohh about that yeah...so what next?" Paul voiced.
Emily, already filled with boldness and determination, said, " I would like to do one more thing before the year finally ends, and that is to resolve the feud between the two most influential families in our town." Paul, shocked by Emily's newly added resolution on the list, said, "ermm...madam Emi, I hope you aren't referring to the Hendersons and the Parkers...you know these two families have been at war, even before we were born. Come on, there are so many other things we can do together before the year ends."
Emily who has always had a strong spirit didn't let Paul's words discourage her and instead, stared aggressively at Paul, as if telling him to back off... and Paul, a good observer, noticing the body language, though afraid of Emily's latest decision, voiced, " arghh! alright we can do this...but I'm just going to support you from the back."
Days passed and Emily invited the two families, and other notable personnels, to the town hall. Though the two parties were reluctant after one hearing the other was going to be present, they came regardless.
Tension filled the hall as Emily took the bold step to begin the dialogue, and just as her mischievous friend (Paul) had promised, he still in a state of fear, was standing just at the entrance should incase the usual fight between the two families began....but fortunately for Emily, and the village at large, slowly but surely, resolutions were reached, apologies exchanged, and a newfound understanding between the two emerged.
The conflict that had lingered for generations started to dissipate, and just like magic, the worst of enemies, became best of friends In the community.
Few hours to the new year, Emily and Paul met again— "Emily, you did it!" Paul exclaimed. "I did what?" Emily asked in a confused tone. "You were able to overcome procrastination, and with a massive help from me, you were able to resolve the fight between two enemies" Paul said, knowing fully well he was prepared to run away, should the opposite have happened that day. Emily once again, sensing Paul's unseriousness, responded, "yeah you are right you helped me a lot that day lol."
Amidst their chitty chat and laughter that day, Emily said " Paul, thanks for your encouragement...let's follow this part of accomplishing resolutions not just for ourselves, but also for the town at large."
And as it hitted 12am,
the cheers of the little town, echoed into the night—a testament to the transformative power of resolutions and the strength found in the resolve to change for the better for the two, and the town at large.

I’m a procrastinator myself and I would love to stop this bad habit. Such a nice story
The earlier the better ma'am 😅😅

Being a procrastinator myself, I would really like to break this terrible behavior. What a beautiful tale
Please do👍

Your story has a strong arc. There is a problem proposed at the beginning and by the end that problem has been resolved. You introduce us to an interesting personality, Emily. We can all relate to her conflict over resolution-making.
It is a bit hard to believe that this one girl could be instrumental in overcoming a long-standing feud, but that's your story, so we accept it.
Thank you for sharing this with us, @timix648.

Procrastination is a force against implementing resolutions. It's awesome that Emily defeated such a spirit.
Very true! Sadly not too many people realise this on time
Thanks for reading 🙏
