My identity

My identity. Greetings, everyone. Thank you for dropping by my blog today, with joy ๐Ÿ˜Š in my heart ๐Ÿ’œ. I will be sharing with you about my unique culture mada.

First of all, what is culture? Culture refers to the shared beliefs, values, practices, and material objects that constitute a way of life for a group of people. I'm Mada and proud to be one. Let me tell you a bit about us. The Mada people are an ethnic group primarily located in the north central part of Nigeria, Nasarawa state, Akwanga local government to be precise.

Mada dance is a very unique and a bit difficult for someone who isn't Mada. And our music is not just a song but most times a message.

Talking about our food hmm one the best I know.

Mada people are peace makers ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Back in the days when I was a child, every Sunday a masquerade could come out in my community.

The reason for his coming out was to inform the young boy and girl to be responsible, and any girl who took in out-of-wedlock could be given to the masquerade to be beaten. Our attire is also one of the best-looking in the state. What I love about Mada people is that they are united;

we do have our festival once a year, were we invite the mada sons and daughters in the diaspora to come and celebrate ๐Ÿฅ‚ their culture, and it's also like a way of remaining them of where they came from.

in fact, their slogan is Mada sei gyir, which means Mada is one. This is but a little that I can say about my people, Mada. Thank you for reading through.

This are not really my pictures, I got them from Facebook. But this are mada people. My culture and identity.

Wow. This is wonderful. Those of us from this part of the world sometimes consider the entire tribe from the north central down to the far north Hausa. Thank God for my travels, I have at least got to encounter tribes from the Benue and Kogi, and I was even shocked to realise that these lands are not really Hausa.

Your culture sound really amazing, the only thing I don't like is the fact that girls who took in out of wedlock has to be beaten by masquerade, what about the boys, hope they beaten too ๐Ÿ˜€? That aside, I would certainly love to attend Mada festival someday. Thank you so much @tigrace for sharing this, I enjoyed reading through

You are right. Most people from the other part of Nigeria often think that northern part of Nigeria are only Hausa which is not true, because even the core north have tribes just that Hausa is the major language here.

And about the beating, that was in the olden days not anymore. Thank you for reading through.

Thank you once again for sharing @tigrace, thank God people like me have come to realise that most of those states are not all Hausa. The East and West are use to having States that are all Igbos and Yoruba, and that actually influences their judgement.

It's okay, I understand. Infact in Nasarawa state, there is no Hausa local government, all the Hausa people here came from other different states for businesses. We have about 29 languages in Nasarawa state and non is pure Hausa.

29, that is massive. That makes it even more than that of River State, I was all the while thinking Rivers have the most languages. Thank you for opening my eye a bit ๐Ÿ˜€

You have a beautiful culture ๐Ÿ˜ but I don't like that girls get beaten by masquerade when dey get pregnant out of wedlock, it shows the injustice women are subjected to most times

They should really change the culture oo

I once had a friend that is from nasarawa state, he is a very nice guy, and despite nasarawa being in the north I discover that most people from nasarawa are Christians, (I stand to be corrected) just what I noticed personally
