Movie Review: Close - 2022

Coming back to movie reviews after so long without writing any here. I don't know how the CineTv community is doing but I remember that in the golden days I actively participated and there were always good rewards. Today I will talk about one of the most sensitive and powerful movies I saw this year, it's called Close. From the unquestionably great director Lukas Dhont (who does not know how to make a bad movie) and scripted by him with the help of Angelo Tijssen. Close tells the story of two friends, Leo and Rémi and in a very delicate and powerful way explores the deep intimacy that these friends develop in this relationship that has no label, because it does not matter for two 13-year-old pre-teens. But the affection and dedication they give to each other ends up impacting their lives when such displays of affection have negative effects in the school environment. Close deals with the forced and horrible rupture of a friendship poisoned by the opinion of others, by human concern about their certainties and trusts, Close hurts by showing us the hurt that childhood and youth can generate in sensitive souls. It is difficult to talk about this movie without ending up suffering for the injustice and bitterness that permeate this story. I cannot detail more than that without spoiling the "poisoned cherry on the cake". But what I can do is digress a little more about this emotional conflict of a social nature arising from the child's relationship with the outside world (in this case, the school).

The film shows very clearly the anxiety generated in Leo and Rémi when they perceive the acid and uncomfortable comments of school "colleagues" who suggest that both are a gay couple, simply based on the "affection" factor that one has for the other. What, in the mind of a pre-teen who yearns for respect and space in youth society, automatically generates a reaction of repulsion towards what marked him, in this case, the connection with his greatest and most important friend. What is initially only bitter about the rupture in this friendship soon becomes a disgrace. And again, it's hard not to feel disgusted with society and how the whole mechanics of social relationships in schools work. At the same time that this is catastrophically almost inevitable, given the unpredictability of the actions of the "others", it makes us swallow dry the pain arising from the lack of "emotional and social education" in a society, even if in the example we are flirting with a Belgian micro universe, one realizes that ignorance and rudeness spreads to the four corners of the world and is extremely harmful when put to the test in the student environment, an arena of pain and suffering.

Voltando para os reviews de filme depois de tanto tempo sem escrever nenhum por aqui. Não sei como anda a comunidade do CineTv mas lembro que nos tempos áureos participei ativamente e sempre havia boas recompensas. Hoje falarei sobre um dos filmes mais sensíveis e poderosos que vi esse ano, chama-se Close. Do inquestionavelmente ótimo diretor Lukas Dhont (que não sabe fazer filme ruim) e roteirizado pelo mesmo com o auxílio de Angelo Tijssen. Close conta a história de dois amigos, Leo e Rémi e de uma forma muito delicada e poderosa explora a intimidade profunda que estes amigos desenvolvem nesse relacionamento que não tem rótulo, por que isso não importa para dois pré-adolescentes de 13 anos. Mas o carinho e dedicação que um dá ao outro acaba por impactar suas vidas quando tais demonstrações de afeto geram efeitos negativos no meio escolar. Close trata da ruptura forçada e horrível de uma amizade envenenada pela opinião alheia, pela preocupação humana à respeito de suas certezas e confianças, Close machuca ao nos mostrar o machucado que a infância e a juventude podem gerar em almas sensíveis. É difícil falar sobre esse filme sem acabar sofrendo pela injustiça e pela amargura que permeiam essa história. Não posso detalhar mais do que isso sem estragar a "cereja envenenada do bolo". Mas o que posso fazer é divagar um pouco mais à respeito desse conflito emocional de cunho social advindo da relação da criança com o mundo externo (no caso, a escola).

O filme mostra de forma muito nítida a ansiedade gerada em Leo e Rémi quando estes percebem os comentários ácidos e desconfortáveis dos "colegas" de escola que sugerem que ambos são um casal gay, simplesmente baseado no fator "carinho" que um tem para com o outro. O que, na mente de um pré adolescente que anseia aflito por respeito e espaço na sociedade juvenil, gera automaticamente uma reação de repulsa para com aquilo que lhe marcou, no caso, a conexão com seu maior e mais importante amigo. O que inicialmente apenas é amargo pela ruptura nessa amizade, logo torna-se uma desgraça. E novamente, é difícil não sentir repulsa da sociedade e de como funciona toda a mecânica das relações sociais nas escolas. Ao mesmo tempo que isso é catastroficamente quase inevitável, dado imprevisibilidade das ações dos "outros", nos faz engolir a seco a dor advinda da falta de "educação emocional e social" numa sociedade, mesmo que no exemplo estejamos flertando com um micro universo Belga, percebe-se que a ignorância e a rudez espalha-se aos quatro cantos do mundo e é extremamente nociva quando colocada à prova no meio estudantil, uma arena de dor e sofrimento.
