One of the most dreaded pains in the world.

Life is tough for a lot of people out there, including me, and these happenings that make life tough, when we survive them, make us stronger. For a woman who has suffered many miscarriages, you cannot compare her ability to withstand that awful experience to that of a woman who is just experiencing one. Their strength in withstanding the shock and emotional breakage cannot be the same.

In the year 2019, I can still remember the experience vividly because it is one I can never forget in a hurry. I was bitten by a scorpion, and the pain was the worst I have ever experienced in my life. The pain from a cutlass cut on the flesh cannot be compared to the pain I felt. Frankly speaking, I thought I would die from the pain and from the belief that once a person is bitten by a scorpion and the poison is not removed on time, the poison will circulate throughout the body and cause death.

It happened when my younger brother and I went to our site to pack blocks that had been moulded on the ground. When I was bitten and I began to shout, my brother could only manage to tie the upper part of my hand to stop the circulation of the poison. He tied my hand tightly, but with the way I was struggling with the pain, pulling my muscles to withstand it and also shaking the hand violently, the rope loosened.

The site was far from busy areas, so my shouts could not reach anyone who could help. We managed to move towards a busier area and eventually got into a chemist shop, where the chemist rushed into action. Even then, the pain was still there, and all I kept begging for was my life because I did not want to die.

The pain was reduced after the chemist treated the spot, and miraculously, he said the poison had not gone far. He also applauded my brother for having the idea of administering first aid.

After that event, whenever people talk about scorpion bites, I always laugh and boast that I survived it once, one of the most dreaded pains in the world..
