On valentine's day

This year’s Valentine’s Day happened to fall on the just-passed Saturday, a weekend, which kind of made it a very long day because it was not a working day and I was home throughout(almost through our) the day. Unfortunately for me, my relationship became shaky late last year, which was also favourable for me because I did not have to buy anyone Christmas goodies. So, I can say that I was not in any relationship during this just-concluded Valentine’s Day, and again, I was saved from the demand of spending hugely on flowers that would not add anything to anyone’s life,flowers that would be discarded into the bin the following day.

When the day came, I found myself scrolling through social media, as that has been my hobby, especially on Saturday mornings when I know I will not be going out for the daily hustle. I wanted to skip anything concerning Valentine’s Day on social media, but there was no way to do that because it was the trend of the day. Luckily for me, I did not see anything provocative that could make me feel depressed or intimidated for not having a lover to share the moment with. My last relationship did a lot to me, and I was happy I was not involved with her in this year’s Valentine’s Day celebration.

I had my breakfast from the leftovers I prepared on Friday, refreshed myself, and just when I was about to go out to the betting shop not too far from my area to charge my phone while staying there to watch a football match as well, I got a call from a family I made friends with last year, asking me to come over to their house to help organise a birthday party for one of their daughters.

Since it was a little girl’s birthday party, I thought it would only be filled with children and parents, so I would not have to see anything that could make me start feeling 'absent' on Valentine’s Day. When I got there, I met ladies around my age who had brought their sisters to join in the birthday. That was it, I found interest in one of them. We exchanged numbers, and later in the night, we had fun chatting and feeling like something was already happening between us.
