No to mortuary business
There are a lot of jobs and businesses out there that people do to earn a living that I admire especially because of the amount of money they make. But whenever I think about the idea of me going into such businesses, I quickly flag it off. It's not only me that this happens to; it is a natural occurrence in humans.
Among all the jobs or businesses I know that people do that I admire because of how much they earn, there is one I may never consider and that's working in a mortuary or owning one myself.
This business is indeed a profitable one because I know people who work there and people who own mortuaries too. They earn a lot because the work and the business are not rampant, and there is always patronage since people die every day.
In a big city with 50 hospitals scattered around, you won’t find up to half of that number in mortuaries. The same thing applies to the workers too. Mortuaries do not have as many staff compared to organisations like banks, hospitals, or the police. This is because people detest the work out of fear and don’t want to go into it.
As we know, a business that is rare tends to gain more compared to businesses with a high level of competition. In my city of residence, one of the trending and very rampant businesses people are going into is the high-class restaurant and eatery business. That business is scattered everywhere, and as such, the competition is on a high note. That can’t be compared to a situation where there are only a few restaurants in town.
The man I know who owns a mortuary in my hometown,, we saw him build a mansion just a few years after he established the business, and it was evident that he got the money he used to build the house from the mortuary business.
The people that work there as staff also earn a good sum of money. It’s a sensitive job, at least in Africa, as we believe that there is a spiritual attachment to it, and anyone doing that work must have some basic understanding of how certain situations are handled.
I admire the work, especially the payment and the bravery it takes to do that kind of work.
I won’t lie, I think I’m a bit scared to go into such a business. I don’t know how I would live comfortably meeting dead bodies every day. I don’t know how I’ll survive my nights if I go to work and encounter stories like seeing dead bodies move, as we often hear from people that work there. It would traumatize me for the whole night and possibly forever. Also, I detest seeing decaying dead bodies. I know people say that mortuaries do not smell, but I can’t believe that. There must be odours, and I don’t know how I would be able to withstand such bad odours and live with them all the days of my life.
Thanks!
