My childhood dreams

Having a childhood dream is something that almost everyone had while growing up. Some chased that dream and fulfilled it in their adult years, while others pursued it but fell out along the way.

What are childhood dreams? These are wishes that children form in their minds during their early years, dreams of who or what they want to become when they grow into adulthood.
As seen in primary schools today, there are days set aside for students to showcase their basic talents and dress up to represent their ambitions. These days are often referred to as Career Day.

I had two of them(childhood dreams) on my list because I loved each one, and maybe I already had an idea that adulthood would be tough and that I might fall out while chasing those dreams.

The first on the list was A DOCTOR:
Why did I choose this? I wasn't particularly interested in the work itself, but I was deeply attracted to the title and the respect that came with it. I admired the way people showed respect whenever a doctor passed by in their white coat or was addressed with the title “Dr.” That was my love for the field , not the practice, but the prestige. I simply wanted to have “Dr.” attached to my name and enjoy the respect it brings, even going as far as bringing that honour to my parents. As we know, there’s a special kind of respect given to a household that has a doctor in it.

The second was to be AN ENGINEER:

It’s funny that I didn’t pick a specific field of engineering because I admired all of them, mechanical, civil, and electrical. What drew me in was the image of engineers wearing their core gear and helmets, not to do the actual hands-on work, but to give instructions, just like I saw in many photos in magazines and newspapers, where the senior engineers were the ones holding papers and giving directions to the junior engineers to execute the tasks.

As I was growing up and of course, I’m still growing, I walked along the path that could have led to any of these professions because I never liked to be associated with art courses. I was in the science class.

But when it came to time to gain admission into the tertiary institution, that was where all my anticipation came to a halt. First, there was the JAMB examination. I didn’t meet the cut-off mark the first time I wrote it, and even the second time, my score wasn’t high enough to qualify me for medical school. I grew tired of waiting and staying an extra year just to write JAMB again. So, I eventually agreed to settle for another course which is Computer Science , instead of forcing my way into Medicine or Engineering.

That’s how I found myself studying Computer Science, and I have never regretted it. In fact, it has felt as though I made the right choice, especially considering how the world is evolving with technology.

Thanks!
