Earning money is difficult

To earn money and earning it more, is that hard or easy in my nation Nigeria?

This is a straightforward question that has a straightforward answer. Earning more money in my country is very hard, in fact, it is extremely difficult.

In my nation, Nigeria, having a job that pays up to $200 monthly is very rare. The available job offers are mostly the ones with salaries ranging from ₦20 to $100 monthly. The $100 offer is considered a very big opportunity if one gets such employment. The other well-paying jobs are the hard ones that demand a lot of physical strength to do, such as working on building sites as a mason or carpenter, or doing other labor-intensive work. These jobs drain the body a lot. I did them some time ago, so I know how my body system reacted while I was trying to cope with the exhaustion my body experienced.

Have you seen people carrying and transporting bags of cement effortlessly? That’s the kind of work I’m talking about. There’s money in stressful work, but not everyone can do it.

It’s just as easy to make money illegally, but at the same time, it’s illegal, risky, and not everyone can get involved in that.

The worst of it all is that our currency, the naira, is very low when compared to top-rated currencies such as the dollar and the euro. We can be earning our small stipend from hard work, but anytime we want to use it to make a purchase, the cost will swiftly swallow up the money. This part pains me the most. It’s hard to earn money, and the little one earns is always swallowed mercilessly by the high cost of living. The cost of living does not match the average earnings of a Nigerian.

Earning money is hard in my country; that’s why people have devised many means, including illegal ones, to earn and keep surviving. An example of this is the way religious centres are being established every now and then. You can’t blame the leaders of these centres, they’re simply looking for a means to earn a living.
